Yahoo! Sports obtained the rosters, and the West reserves also include the Los Angeles Lakers’ Pau Gasol, New Orleans Hornets’ David West, Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki, San Antonio Spurs’ Tony Parker, Denver Nuggets’ Chauncey Billups and Portland Trail Blazers’ Brandon Roy.

The East reserves include two Orlando Magic, Jameer Nelson and Rashard Lewis. East coaches also chose the Boston Celtics’ Paul Pierce, Atlanta Hawks’ Joe Johnson, Toronto Raptors’ Chris Bosh, New Jersey Nets’ Devin Harris and Indiana Pacers’ Danny Granger.

Re: BRoy makes the all-star team!

Sweet! Nearly exactly what I predicted in the other thread, but I think Turkoglu deserved it more than Rashard.

Re: BRoy makes the all-star team!

Good for Brandon. I hope he enjoys Phoenix.

Re: BRoy makes the all-star team!

I'm more irked the D-West made it over LMA. Statistically they are about dead equal, with Aldridege slightly ahead in 82games.com Roland Ratings. Next year LMA has a reallly good chance though especially if we make the playoffs this year and LaMarcus plays well, because that's really the only reason David West made it this year.

I knew Gasol was going to be picked. I mean LA is the best out west. That should warrant 2 all-stars, and Gasol was the obvious choice.

We could have three all-stars next year. Greg/LMA/Brandon! Wishful thinking:)

Re: BRoy makes the all-star team!

David West does not deserve this.

Re: BRoy makes the all-star team!

Chris Webber picked Durant over Brandon...wow.

I could not believe that David West got in over Al Jefferson. The hypocrisy of it all continues though, with the same coaches that voted in West, voted in Granger in the east, even though his team has struggled.

For the west, it looks like coaches put a lot of value into players on winning teams.

For the west, the reserves are from LA, NO, SA, Denver, Ptd and Dallas.

I found it really annoying the people who even doubted whether or not Roy was on the all-star team. In my mind he was pretty much a complete lock to make it. David West...yeah I actually might give the nod to someone like Al Jefferson this year. David West is a good player, but he's a borderline all-star. I think even Durant couple have been chosen over West looking at the numbers.

As for the East, I'm not surprised at that list either, and pretty much everyone there deserves to be on the team.

Assuming Roy stays healthy, you can pretty much pencil him in for the all-star game for the next six years. He'll need to compete with other guards like Kobe, Kevin Martin, and O.J. Mayo. I don't know that Roy will ever win the fan vote and start, but I think that coaches realize that Roy is an elite level player and will select the best player from a good team over some other players (like a Martin or Mayo) that might put up gaudier numbers on a bad team. Roy is a complete player.

Al Jeff and Durant should be there instead of Shaq and West. Hell I'd pick Melo and Deron over West too.

I think Carter got snubbed too. I can understand one of Lewis or Nelson, but not both. Should have been Nelson and Carter.

Roy was a lock. He's been the third-best guard in the West (and surprisingly close to Kobe). Not just in terms of advanced metrics, but also observationally, in terms of "clutch" (not something I put stock in, but some do), contributing to a winning team, being seen as a leader, etc.

I can't think of a single reasonable argument against Roy.

Isn't Carmello still injured? I'm a bit surprised he didn't make it then. He's still ahead of someone like Durant.

The All-star game is a lot easier to get into once you've been there once before..because you are then already labeled an "all-star" player.

Melo is supposed to make his comeback tomorrow

^Press conference.

Can Roy say ANYTHING wrong?

What an arrogant ass! Gave NO credit to his teammates at all! Bashes the town of Portland, and says LA and Oden will never be as good as me...

:devilwink:

Unbelievable! The SF Chronicle reports, " Shaquille O'Neal joined Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson on the All Star reserve squad. Also on the West roster for the Feb 15 game in Phoenix are Chauncey Billups of the Nuggets, Paul Gasol of the Lakers and Tony Parker of the Suns."

Are they missing someone?

Three All-Stars on the Magic? I don't think so. Dwight Howard is a lock, but Nelson is underwhelming. I don't think he should have made it. This is a team that we should have swept. Mo Williams was robbed.

?

They are averaging very similar stats in terms of pts/reb/ast/etc., only Nelson is shooting 50% from the field and 44% from three and Williams is shooting 45% and 38% respectively.

Mo Williams is the second best player on the second best team in the east. Jameer Nelson is the 3rd or 4th best player on the 3rd best team. I just don't think the Magic deserve to have three All-Stars.

I don't either, but I don't think it's Mo Williams who was robbed. He's simply not putting up good enough statistics for him to warrant an all-star selection.

I also think the "being on the best team" argument is overrated. You should make the all-star team based on how well you play, not how well your team plays. For example, Mo Williams was putting up similar stats in Milwaukee, but no one would have said he was an all-star.
