i believe this was the day that we have been dreading, as he has served his 10 game suspension, and is available to play as of today at 4pm in memphis.

From what I've read it seems almost a foregone conclusion that he will play in 10+ games this season. Look for KP to get aggressive with RLEC + parts unknown to try and get the guy he wants.

Next Saturday is a big day for Miles. Contracts for players who aren't waived by next Saturday, January 10, become guaranteed for the rest of the season. So Miles has four games in the next six days to make enough of an impression on the Grizzlies that they will want to pay him for the reaming 45 games of the season.

If they do waive him, it makes it easier for another team to pick him up on a 10-day contract (or two) now that he's served his 10-game suspension.

Not that I wish injury on Miles, but if this did happen, and the Grizzlies are doing this just to mess with Portland's cap space, it would serve them right. According to the NBA collective bargaining agreement:

Also, if a player is waived prior to January 10 but is injured as a direct result of playing basketball with his team, then his salary is guaranteed until he is ready to play again or until the end of the season, whichever comes first.

So, if Miles does get injured between now and the 10th and is unable to play for the remainder of the season, the Grizzlies would still have to pay him - and they wouldn't get to screw Portland out of the cap space.

Darius Miles finally broke through the skepticism with skill and the domination of a sequence that made a believer of his Grizzlies teammates.

The 6-9 forward, who is trying to resurrect his NBA career after signing a nonguaranteed contract with Memphis Dec. 12, took over practice at the end of last week. Playing with the second unit and trailing 12-6, Miles turned the game around with a pair of clutch shots. He then got a steal and ran a fast-break that led to a dunk.
"He had a (heckuva) practice," Griz forward Rudy Gay said. "He was getting up and down the court, knocking down shots and he even caught an alley oop. If anything, playing basketball will be easy for him. It's just getting his rhythm back."
Griz fans may or may not see what kind of groove Miles is in this afternoon when the team hosts the Dallas Mavericks. Today marks the first game Miles is eligible to play after serving a 10-game suspension for violating the NBA's drug policy. Griz coach Marc Iavaroni was noncommittal as to whether Miles would be granted time.
"If the situation arises, yes. If we feel he's ready, yes," Iavaroni said when asked if Miles will play. "I don't rule it out. He's made progress. He's been somewhat surprising to me, which is a good sign. I'm optimistic."
Some of the Grizzlies' veteran players doubt Miles is in enough NBA shape to contribute right away even though he has worked out every day, even when the Griz took time off.
"He's been working out but he's not in game shape so he has to get there," guard Greg Buckner said.
Forward Hakim Warrick said Miles has met expectations, however tempered those are.
"Of course, he's not going to be the same high-flying guy you've seen," Warrick said. "But he definitely brings some experience and veteran leadership we can definitely use."

Personally I hope he plays and plays well. That will force Pritchard into trading Raef's contract instead of waiting for free agency.

This Raef LaFrentz situation is starting to feel like the 06-07 Paxson situation, where they waited months for a trade and nothing went down.

There needs to be a minimum minutes per game average in place here...playing 1 minute for 10 games should not be enough to put his salary back on our cap, that is horse crap.

yeah i noticed that too, what a fucking joke, you think they might have actually have a player they could try and develop in garbagetime.

But, from the looks of things, they'd probably still send him out there on crutches for a second per game for nine more games just to mess up the Blazers cap space.

Really? I thought he was on a 10-day. Do they get extended automatically if the player is hurt? That seems like a good deal for the player, if so.
