Merged: Heat want Andre and Rudy

DON'T TRADE RUDY! He can help us more then Chalmers ever would.

While merchandise sales are definitely valuable to an organization, I don't think it really helps us move closer to winning a championship.

What point guard then. Chris Paul. sure, if that happens great. Steve Nash maybe?

My gut says Paul. If we're moving Miller for a trade exception, I think that's the next move. Either that, or another big name. I think Paul is definitely on the block, and I think talks will be revisited when the moratorium is lifted.

Rudy doesn't want to come back. How good will he really be for the team?

he can't get much worse.

who cares if he doesn't want to come back. a 3rd tier PG isn't going to make that much of a difference.

That's not true. Instead of standing around and doing nothing, he could start jacking up shots from half court ;)

So what's the deal? Everything is kind of jumbled around in this thread.

I'm worried about him becoming a cancer or a distraction than his lackluster play.

meh, we'll deal with it when we get there. for now, its just a bunch of rampant Spanish media speculation. Rudy would be pretty awesome in Miami though. ya know with all those mexicans. :ohno:

Yep. As far as talent is concerned, Rudy the Portland TrailBlazer might as well be in a bodybag. He has unquestionably played his last game in a Blazer uniform.

I wouldn't be shocked to see a Darko-type career path for Rudy though. Last year at this time Darko wanted to go back to Europe but was obligated by contract to stay here. Got traded to Minnesota where he actually played very well -- found a Joel Pryzbilla type niche -- and found happiness. Signed a ludicrous contract to stay in Minny. I always felt bad for Darko. He was placed in the worst possible situation and never given a chance. In a draft with NBA-ready studs in Bron, Melo, Wade and Bosh, Darko needed time to develop like Chris Kaman, but Detroit was in Championship mode, not develop young prospects mode, and darko rotted. I'm happy for him.

As for Rudy. He's really been nothing but a soft, stubborn, whiny bitch here. I wish him nothing but unhappiness and disappointment and a career wallowing in obscurity. Disappointing that we could've had local stud Aaron Brooks.

Chalmers/Beasley would be a steal. I've always thought a change of scenery could do Beasley a lot of good.

Only an idiot would make this deal.

Guess Miller's an idiot.

Why would we trade away our veteran PG if we're building a championship team? If that happens, its just proof that the Blazers are in "blow it up" mode.

Chalmers was a Pritchard choice b/c of the Kansas connection.

Cause Brandon doesn't like playing with him, and he doesn't fit in well with Nate's offensive philosophy

Beasley has the same issue Roy has. He has problems playing off the ball. He is an ISO player.

Correct me if I am wrong but we did not ask Phoenix to draft Rudy, we bought him after they did. I guess technically we could have asked before they picked, but that is a stretch to say we could of had him.

Of course most fans were against drafting him AB saying he was too small. He reminded most of Damon.

Update: Multiple sources say #Blazers are not discussing trade of Miller and/or Fernandez with #MiamiHEAT. - Blazerbanter Twitter

I don't think Roy has problems playing off the ball... I think he has his comfort zone, and he doesn't like to play off the ball. He could actually be a very good off the ball shooting guard.

You don't buy that pick blindly without knowing who you're getting. That deal was agreed to WELL before Phoenix drafted Rudy, so rest assured he's the guy we wanted w/ that pick.

Phoenix wanted to sell the pick, we wanted Rudy.

I'd take 5 Brandon Roy's even if it meant they had "problems" playing off the ball.

Re: Heat after A.Miller

The poster said it was top-14 protected, yo.

And no, I'm not interested. I wanted to get Beasley when he may have been free to anyone willing to give cap relief...not for the team's best point guard with no high-level replacement lined up.

Yeah, I just thought it was interesting given "another move coming" type scenario. Also yes, I failed at reading comprehension and quoted my failing. Sweet.

Something I haven't seen mentioned in this thread yet is what New Orleans wants...

George Shinn is trying to sell the team, so the fewer contracts they have, the better. While expiring contracts are appealing, a lack of contracts (or in this "what-if" case, a Traded Player Exception) are even better. Unquestionably the Blazers and Hornets have had discussions. Perhaps the Blazers have been told that a deal could get done if the Blazers could turn some of that expiring money into TPE Money?

If we could do this Miami trade without bringing Beasley back, have it JUST be Chalmers and Toronto's pick, then we'd be bringing back a very nice TPE which would equal to Shinn dollar-to-dollar savings. No one out there is going to argue that this deal brings us fair talent back, however I think you could argue that it helps us in trying to get Paul with an Andre-Miller's-contract-sized TPE, Joel's Insurance covered contract, an extra appealing 1st rd. pick and less hesitance to move Bayless (since we'd have Chalmers as a backup).

Certainly it's all supposition at this point, but if this trade WERE to guarantee us getting Paul, I'd say it'd be a no-brainer. Chalmers and an attractive 1st is GREAT value for Rudy at this point. Think about it this way -- CERTAINLY the Blazers have dangled Dre and Rudy as part of a Paul trade (along with other stuff), and NO walked away. If you could turn those 2 into some other package that NO would trade Paul for, isn't it worth it? AND on top of that, it would ALSO get us a young backup PG that we've liked for a long time (I trust our scouts more than I trust stats or my eyes), and potentially a 1st round pick (depending on what NO would want).

I like it. Get er done Larry "3-day weekend extended" Miller. ;)

Yeah ... there is that. Maybe South Beach is just too much for Beasley to handle AND concentrate on basketball ... if he comes here, he's either going to deep throat a 44 magnum by mid February out of boredom/depression or he may be able to do nothing but focus on hoops (or I suppose he could become the next Darius and make it rain in one of our many fine gentlemen's clubs around town).

Rain? I think you mean HAIL...as in:

"A hail of bullets greeted young Dr. Darius whilst he groped a girl with a minor meth problem. No really, she can handle it. She's only spending her tip money on it...oh right she only gets tips."

I'm guessing PA is in:

WIN THE FUCK NOW ALREADY GODDAMIT!!! I'M FUCKING DYING!!! mode.

Beasley scares the crap out of me. It's no secret he enjoys certain herbal medicines and nowhere (except Amsterdam perhaps) is grass more readily available, powerful, and accepted as Potland.

Bringing him in, to me, would smack much more of Darius Miles Part Deux than it would of Rasheed.

I think Beasley's immensely talented, and we've always wanted that kind of Shawn Marion type 3, but the whold weed thing, along with the 'nothing to do here' factor is enough for me to not want him.

That said, I suppose if he DOES come in and figure things out, it would help offset whatever amount of hype that Oden fails to live up to... I'd still rather have the TPE for another run at CP3...

Right because since Beasley was caught with weed, he and Chalmers along with Josh Howard are the ONLY players who smoke herb.

I don't recall saying that they were the only ones, so I don't really get your point. I know alot of players smoke, OTHER players have nothing to do with Beasley though...

The point is more to the fact that Beasley was dumb enough to post a picture of himself online with weed in the picture. On top of that he's already gone to rehab for alcohol... The guy clearly has substance abuse issues, and I don't necessarily think bringing him HERE of all places will improve that. Kind of like having an AA meeting at a bar.

I reallllly like Chalmers....if we could get Beasley and Chalmers for Rudy and Miller I would do that in a heartbeat. Chalmers is solid on defense and is still really young. I think Beasley has a breakout year next year for a couple reasons....IF he stays...he has Bosh and Wade to play off of and that in itself will provide more scoring opportunities...If he leaves...he really has something to prove. That kid has CRAZY talent...it's all about how bad he wants it.
