Can you imagine if that is what Oden was doing for us? That is the kind of player people dreamed he would be when they said he was a once in his generation center. If we had a guy like that, we'd be winning the title this year and every year.

He must've really fucked up your dreams.

EDIT: SHaq's awesome.

Oden will be that guy next year.

Was that before or after Shaq's microfracture surgery?

Good one

In other irrelevant news - in 2005 Damon Stoudamire scored 54 points in one game.

BTW - you forgot to end the post with "Yahtzee".

Re: In 1993, Shaq grabbed 28 rebounds and blocked 15 shots in the same game?

That was back when Shaq actually cared about things like rebounding and defense. His career season highs for both rebounds and blocked shots were during his rookie year. I seriously doubt we'll be saying the same thing about Oden 15 years from now.

Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

From today's embarrassment:

Start of fourth quarter: Rockets 85, Blazers 58

My best sarcastic question for Nate McMillan: "Nate, Yao Ming has destroyed you guys tonight. You just have no answer for him. How much do you regret taking Kevin Durant over Greg Oden? [Awkward pause.] Wait, you DID take Greg Oden? I thought that was DeAndre Jordan!"

Question No. 1 from Ric Bucher: Hold on, hold on ... they waived the interview! There must be a 25-point mercy rule.

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

So Durant would've defended Yao better?

I guess considering he lead his team to the playof...oh wait. No he didn't.

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

He must have been very, very, very bitter after that loss to Chicago earlier in the day.

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

I want to know how he really feels about his favorite team essentially trading the opportunity to get Brandon Roy for Sebastian Telfair? That one's still gotta hurt.

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

Hello, hater!

I like these articles. Why? The Blazers are always on his mind.

Exactly. Shaq didn't have to have MF surgery. Don't you wish Oden didn't have to either? Don't you wish he was a healthy dominating rookie? It's not his fault obviously. But don't you wish we had gotten a rookie season from Oden like other dominating centers have done?

Re: In 1993, Shaq grabbed 28 rebounds and blocked 15 shots in the same game?

We did get a rookie season and we won 54 games.

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

I really can't believe that people even care what Simmons has to say. I don't think he has any credibility left. At this point, I don't even read him and I consider him a joke.

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

Bill Simmons is a great writer. I loved his column about MVP rankings 1 through 450. He took a dig at Greg, yes, but he had a great passage about why Brand is the LVP. His writing can be very entertaining.

As for criticisms about Greg Oden and Durant and all, we're going to have to put up with them (Barkley and Kenny Smith were saying that they could score 4 points in a playoff game now if they wanted to too). He was a #1 pick. He was supposed to be a once in a generation center, which means he should be averaging at LEAST a double double and two blocks in his rookie year but it hasn't worked out that way. First, surgery, then, foul trouble. Hopefully, he turns it around next season but this season has been a disappointment. And don't rag me for saying that because Greg thinks the same thing!!! He gave himself a C-. That's about where I have him too. Meanwhile, Durant is a top 5 scorer in the league. If I had to do it all over again, I'd still take Greg because he's still very young and he is a better complement to the people we have already. At worst, he'll become a rebounding/shotblocking role player and I think that's better than adding another first option when we already have Roy.

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

I remember he said the safest bet going into the Super Bowl was Gary Russell not getting a touchdown. I knew before the game that if they get within 5 yards of the endzone, Gary gets a touch, and he scores. He ended up getting a TD. Bill Simmons officially became a joke with that. Steeler fans all laughed at him, and most fans of other teams do likewise. I'm actually amazed he knew who DeAndre Jordan was.

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

Bill Simmons is an excellent writer. He makes good points occasionally, sometimes not so much. When he ends up being wrong, he'll be a man and admit it. Let's just wait to see if Oden can prove him wrong.

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

He's going out of his way to trash Oden though. He's trying to justify the Celtics missing out on the #1 that year.

Looks like things worked out for the Cs though. Instead of getting a shut down Oden, they got a title. Oden, on the other hand, is VERY lucky to be on a team with great players like Aldridge and Roy. He's lucky to be in a situation where we didn't need him to be the man to win. In other situations, he'd REALLY be criticized.

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

By the way, do you remember in 2007 Summer League when Oden was getting smoked by second rounders and everyone was a bit disappointed over at BBF? Everyone said well, Duncan had a better summer league, etc. And this was BEFORE the surgery. Then we found out he had a problem with his tonsils. Geesh, it's always something. I'm not sure Oden was gonna have some super season if he had not had the surgery. After all, at the top of this season, Oden said his surgerically repaired knee was stronger than his other knee. So what's the excuse?

Eric why are you so up and down on Oden?

Re: In 1993, Shaq grabbed 28 rebounds and blocked 15 shots in the same game?

A rookie season like the other dominating centers. Like DRob's 24/12, one win which Shaq had a 28 reb, 15 block performance. A season like that! If Oden gave us a rookie season like Shaq's or DRob's, we would've won 65 games easy. The good news is that it turns out that Roy is better than we all thought, that in fact, we will still be able to contend for titles even if Oden doesn't become a Hall of Famer.

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

I don't know. He may be KG/Kobe/Dirk/Nash who started slow and won MVPs and sometimes championships or he might be the word no one wants to utter around here. It's frustrating. One thing is clear: this is not what any of us expected when we drafted him. No 07-08 season. 8/7/1 in 08-09 season. We all expected more but hardly anyone in here will ever confess to that.

People like Bill Simmons, Kenny Smith, and Barkley have no stake in Oden (not like we do) and they already seem to consider Oden a joke.

Ask yourself this:

Let's say we didn't make ANY pick in the 07 draft. So we're totally neutral. We still would've gone 41-41 last season and be on track to improve this season. Now let's pretend Oden went to the Celtics and they returned to the lotto last season and then struggled this season with a 8/7 season from Oden. What would you make of Oden??? What would be your opinion of the #1 pick?

He wont be like Shaq. Not even close. Come on, guys!

Oden, if he can stay healthy, could be in the tier of Centers that include Mutombo and Morning.

I just hope the training staff can get Oden down into the 250-260 range this summer.

What's the rush? We're fine as we are. Sure, I'd love for Oden to play better...but he didn't. I was disappointed in his rookie campaign. Hopefully he learns and comes back stronger and smarter next year.

Oden will get better, we're going to dominate. We're fine now, this is supposed to be a transitional year anyways...we're going to be solid

Re: Bill Simmons, the one-trick bitter douchebag

Oden is another victim of the hype machine. He has the chance to be a good player....but the "once in a generation center" hyperbole was just silly. Even without the knee injury, he wasn't going to live up to the outrageous hype of being another Russell or Chamberlain. The media set him up to fail, and is now having fun at his expense.

OTOH, he gets all the perks that come with being the #1 pick, so he can't complain *too* much! I would let Bill Simmons verbally abuse me for a lot less than Oden is paid!

Yes, but LeBron was hyped and he lived up for it. LeBron was and is "once in a generation." Duncan was "once in a generation." They all thought Oden would be too. Turned out not to be. Not yet anyway.

And you're right. For $5 million dollars, I have no problem getting criticized by an internet columnist.

Simmons has a stake in Oden failing - because he was trumpeting Durant.

Barkley is upset that Oden named a dog after him.

Kenny smith said earlier this year we do not make the playoffs.

They all share the same job however - they are all comedians masquerading as analysts...

Yahtzee.
