The Blazers offered Steve Blake(notes), rookie Jeff Pendergraph(notes) and a first-round pick for Haywood. When Washington countered by asking for swingman Rudy Fernandez(notes), the Blazers declined. Blazers owner Paul Allen is a big fan of Fernandez.

Haywood turned down a four-year, $35 million contract extension from Washington last summer, but a source said the Mavericks hope to re-sign him after the season.

The Lakers have tried to move Luke Walton(notes) and Sasha Vujacic(notes) to shed some salary before Thursday’s trade deadline. One league source the Lakers have even had discussions with one of their Pacific Division rivals: the Blazers. The Blazers, the source said, seem more focused on landing a big man.

Most likely they were after Blake and his expiring deal.

I'm not surprised it went no where. Sasha and Luke are scrubs.

if only kpee was more creative. how great would haywood look on our team?

not to mention we will be in this same boat next year when oden goes down.

Please god no. Luke would be "ok" due to his bball IQ (his skill sucks) and it'd be cool for a LUUUUUUUUUKEEE chant......sasha is fucking terrible though. Get "The Stache". I don't want any player on the L*kers though. they would just blow up in the triangle, you know they would.

You're right, even Yahoo Sports writers subconsciously think Portland should be in the Pacific Division.

Not very.

Not sure I would trust an article by a guy who doesn't know that Portland is in the Northwest Division.

Fixed.

I don't think he'd look all that great. He's a big body and a decent center, but not enough to really make a significant difference for this team in the short or long run.

That Portland was willing to give up Pendergraph and a first for him is sort of surprising to me.

me too...all they wanted was expirings it seems, i guess caron butlers 2011 salary off the books is what they REALLY wanted.

how should he have "got creative"? let us hear how you would do a better job please.

if you could think outside the box you would realize that you can start bashing kpoop for not trading for gooden now, because he is likely available for a 2nd rounder and outlaw.

Baloney. KP offered too much for Haywood in the first place. Blake, Pendergraph, and a 1st round pick? Way too much!

I've just got to ask, Mix, were you Laker Lanny at one time?

Go Blazers

Re: Lakers tried trading us Luke and Sasha? Also what we offered the wiz...

Wow, Washington is stupid. They could have easily moved Butler on his own. To pair him with Stevenson and Haywood for strictly expirings, when he was offered a 1st rounder and young big in Pendergraph is absurd. Fail to see how KP could have done anything else, since we didn't have a big expiring to tak eon Butler and Stevenson, but I can see it's Mixum just being a fucking douche again, and the mods somehow seeing that as posting with honorable intentions. yippeee

Re: Lakers tried trading us Luke and Sasha? Also what we offered the wiz...

Blake/Pendergraph/1st strikes me as pretty good value for an average center like Haywood. And Fernandez is not in the last year of his contract. According to Hoopshype, he's got a player option in 2011-12, after this year and next. So, obviously the Wizards were after more than just expiring deals - if this report is correct, and Washington asked for Rudy.

Rudy is on his rookie scale deal, there are no player options, just options for the team to pick him up.

Yeah man. I was really hoping we could land Haywood. Rudy, Blake and JP for him? I love those our guys, but I would do it.

Ah, the good ole days, when the Blazers and Lakers were both in the Pacific division.

Did the writer make a mistake? Did the Lakers offer Kurt Rambis and Nick Van Exel?

Blake for Walton Swap?

There have been rumors swirling about the unthinkable: Lakers & Blazers as trading partners.
http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_a...blazers_could_become_unlikely_trade_partners/

As we all know, the Lakers have no interest what-so-ever in Walton or Vujacic, as they are non-contributors for them and also put the Lakers over the salary cap.

Whilst the Blazers would have ZERO interest in Vujacic, Walton might be another story, because of his size. He's also very coachable and probably someone Nate might like. Meanwhile, Blake would be an upgrade over Farmar and maybe Fisher as well.

Does anyone think perhaps a Blake / Walton swap might occur or would such a partnership have to be part of a larger deal with other teams helping?

Re: Blake for Walton Swap?

I would hate to have Blake on the L*kers for some reason. I think he would do well there...kill us with 3s....could be the n3ew Brian Shaw.

luke will be minimal impact. he's a pretty decent BBALL IQ guy but risk/reward isn't good.

I just don't get it. This team needs another small forward/wing about as much as Portland needs more rain.

No thanks. Makes no sense. As already mentioned, we don't need another small forward.

Walton's best asset is his passing ability. He has a very high AST% for a small forward. The problem is, passing from the small forward spot isn't part of Nate's offense. In Nate's offense, the small forward's job is to stand in the corner and knock down the open 3. That's why James Jones was such a great fit here. That is his favorite spot on the court and he had a career year his one season in Portland. He could camp out twelve 3FGA all season, Walton isn't exactly a 3-point threat. So, he's stand around in the corner and do nothing. No thanks. We have that covered.

Besides, Walton has three more years, after this one, left on his contract. Double no thanks. If we're going to move Steve Blake for yet another small forward, I'd rather send him to Miami for James Jones. His contract is better than Walton's and he's a better fit - but I wouldn't even do that as we already have a log jam at small forward.

This. The Blazers have plenty of 'good' and 'mediocre' players. The only trade they should make is a consolidation trade that brings back a superior contributor to those going out. And this sickening Walton/Vujipuke rumor ain't it.

Walton isn't even a 'good' or 'mediocre' player. He's 'bad', at least in terms of PER (12.6 career and 11.5 this year). Why in the world would the Blazers want either Walton, who likely wouldn't see the court here, or Sasha and his whopping 12.4 PER. The Yahoo dude must have been snorting meth when he wrote this garbage.

Actually what is funny to me is that Dallas gives up Josh Howard, who has actually done something with his career for Carone Butler, but we won't give up a guy who hasn't done jack shit with his career, and to be quite frank, I am not quite sure he ever will.
