Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

i'm not a fan of granderson or figgins, i think both are over hyped compared to their value. i like your first three picks and think that bruce and iannetta could be nice players this year. your pitching could struggle but if guys like verlander and myers figure it out again it could be a decent staff. i'd be looking for saves on the free agent market though.

Saves are a sucker stat imo. There are so many guys that I will be able to pick up so I puposly went weak when drafting closers. I really like Fuentes...gonna get all those k-rod saves on the cheap! Motte is supposed to have a good chance for the stl closer job.

I had Verlander last year too, he sucked ass...This year I got him way later and he has been tearing it up in spring. I think he changed his mechanics for the better. Cueto has been lighting it up early this year too.
Im hoping he keeps his control and still gets me K's.

I LOVE my infield....and OF are a dime a dozen.

Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

your IF is solid, but I would never draft Fielder, Furcal, or Verlander (especially him)... just not my cup of tea.

Interesting that you're going for a mixed strategy instead of, like what I normally do, win a few categories. I've got a team with all SB/R/avg. players (no power and RBI's) and all closers (all late rounders...agree that there's a lot of 35+ closers who are there to pick up on the cheap). Also went with a with a RBI/HR/avg. team (not much speed, R's sure but no leadoff hitters) team that took all starters (including starters at the RP positions...morrow and this asian dodger dude).

Will be fun to see how your mixed strategy works out.

Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

Nelson Cruz is gonna be this years Evan Longoria :ghoti:

Fielder, Furcal, or Verlander

cause of production or injury concerns?

Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

well, furcal is always hurt.

fielder...im so hesitant of sluggers in the post-steroid era. who knows if they'll pull a jim thome, ya know? or even ryan howard.

and verlander is just garbage. he will DESTROY your whip and era.

dammit dont say that!!!!

year before last: 3.66 1.23

Hes gonna be better then ever...dammit!!!!

Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

well i think u talked me into skipping velanders first start or two:sigh:

Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

any other opinions/comments? First month or so of F. baseball is the most important IMO...Thats when you pick up the guys exploding that you never heard of

Morrow was officially named closer today :ghoti:

Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

Your pitching staff outside of Lackey and Beckett is garbage.

Motte and Morrow were named closers today!

Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

How many people are in your league?

Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

Wow, I would have guessed 8 based on your first couple of picks.

Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

Wow, people in your draft must be do-do.

As in I got good players for where they are drafted?

4 teams are from one family, dad, 2 brothers, and sister...who are all diehard Cubs fans (and one a Giants fan too) so Cubs were going WAAAAAY earlier then they should have.

Giovanni Soto....2nd round :lol::crazy:

thanks for the vote of confidence...we shall see how it goes

I want the bragging rights! Shut my friend up!

Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

It's an OK team. Not anything special. Utley in the 2nd round is pretty good. Your pitching staff is fragile as hell. Beckett's always solid. Verlander and Myers are as unreliable as they come. Good luck.

Re: Like my fantasy baseball team???

I think your team is pretty decent. Great INF, average OF, really crappy pitching but I assume your strategy is to be streaming some guys and find FA pickups. Utley was a good pick and I think Fielder was a great value in the third. I don't like Cabrera in the first. After Hanley, Pujols, and Reyes (b/c he can pretty much win steals and runs for you), I would have gone with Lincecum. Wright and Cabrera are too similar in numbers to a good second round pick; I'd rather get the most dominant pitcher out there. He could have covered up some of Meyers or Verlanders crappy games.

Verlander

...I wouldn't do it, Verlander will be just fine as opposed to the unproven kid.

RHP Justin Verlander has been confirmed as Detroit's Opening Day pitcher for the second consecutive season. "I've known it for a while, but I wasn't exactly sure," manager Jim Leyland said. Verlander won 35 games his first two seasons with the Tigers but lost 17 a year ago. "He's really making an effort to make the steps to be as successful as he can be," Leyland said. Verlander blanked Atlanta on two singles over seven innings Friday in his third straight strong start after cleaning up his mechanics. He threw 75 pitches in his seven innings, a trait of his first two seasons that had ballooned to 100 through five last season. He had five shutout innings in his previous start and has allowed only one run on five hits in his last 18 innings. "He's really working hard on some things he's figured out himself and with (pitching coach) Rick Knapp," Leyland said. "He's making improvements that are good to see."

Mark Bowman, of MLB.com, reports Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander threw seven scoreless innings while striking out three against the Atlanta Braves Friday, March 27. He reached 97 mph on the radar gun and looked like the dominant pitcher that he was in 2007.

Recommendation: Verlander getting the Opening Day start was a foregone conclusion before camp even opened. He's a solid bounce back candidate this season, but unlike the Tigers relying on him as an ace, you should view him more as a No. 3 starter in standard mixed leagues.

Why the heck was my thread merged? There was actually a point to me putting it in a different thread...So people would see it was a new question and I would get quicker responses to a time sensitive question.

OT forum isnt a big deal, you should have just let it gone

I have Scherzer on one of my teams but I'm not a big fan.

I really don't like Verlander, though. He IMO will never put "it" together and become that reliable #1 starter that strikes out a ton of people like he should. Even in his real good season a couple of years ago he still got shellacked a few too many times for my liking.

I would package him with one of your OF and try and get an elite player there. Like Lee + Verlander = Manny? Braun? Holliday? Something better than Lee and again, Verlander isn't worth much to me.
