OT Merged: NBA2k17... Anyone having luck with the Blazers in this game?

Are you always the Portland Trail Blazers in this game or do you try other things out as well?

Harkless despite being rated at only 72 and having a 70 open three point shot is a great three-point shooter in the game when not contested. I dropped 28 pts with him the other day, plenty of joy.

Broke down and got the game for PC during the Steam Autumn sale.

I traded Plumlee, Evan Turner, and Aminu for Brook Lopez and Kenneth Faried in a three team trade. There were two other bench warmers I had to add to the roster to make the trade work and I may have sent out a draft pick as well I c.

Lillard - Napier
McCollum - Crabbe
Harkless - Layman
Faried - Davis - Vonleh
Lopez - Leonard - Ezeli (inactive)

I just hope Neil Olshey plays this game before the trade deadline rolls around.

I'm 11-0 or 12-0 right now. Can't remember offhand. Closest game was a 15 point win. Dame, CJ, Turner, Crabbe, and Vonleh are all out with injuries and we're still humming along. I signed Nate Robinson and he has been a help with all those guys out. If I stay focused, I think 82-0 is possible.

Stop playing the d-league teams.

It's such a joy after they've updated Harkless to 76 and gave stats updates across the league. Being Blazers in MyLeague it's possible to trade for DeAndre Jordan (any of 1 or 1.5-star players plus two first round picks does the trick) and Paul Millsap (you need to give up on Turner plus two or three picks), but I don't like the line up with two of them. I've gone for something much less realistic than that and traded Ezeli + two first round picks for Myles Turner and traded Evan Turner plus two first round picks for Embiid. This is probably the best frontcourt you can possibly get, both are very good rebounders and shot blockers, both have great mid-range and can play well near the basket. I don't mind losing first round picks because I can just trade for some of them later on, and from second season onwards you can just get some free agents and trade them for picks after 4-6 months.

Lillard 38 / Napier 10
McCollum 34 / Crabbe 14
Harkless 26/ Aminu 22
Turner 32 / Davis 16
Embiid 33 / Plumlee 15

This is incredible.

Try playing Denver after the update which took Jokic to 86 rating. The most fun team in the game, only one true star with 80+ rating but you basically have 7-8 very good players between 75 and 80 and the bench is very close to first team. In some positions it's the same. Jokic is immense though, does everything extremely well and is the best center in the game IMO.

I am doing Start Today with them now. Going to take them to the playoffs and then cause some mess there.

I will also take Start Today with Portland but only after Trade Deadline has passed. Depending on what we do I'll either try to save this season or skip it altogether and start over with the draft.

I was in the 20/21 playoffs (I was strictly simulating), dame had just won his 2nd straight MVP, blazers are 3 time defending champs, and my starting lineup was:

Dame
Greek freak
Zion Williamson
Harry Giles
Embiid

With Bol Bol, Malik Monk and Jarret Allen as the main subs.

Bol Bol is nasty, 85 rating, 7'1" sf averaged 9/9/9/2/2 as a 20 year old. Giles was like 87 rating putting up 18/8. Zion Williamson was 1st team all defense.

So...I'm just done simulating the conference finals, swept every team on the way there, going for the 4th straight title when all of the sudden it kinda glitches and all of the sudden it is "start today" of the current season....I'm like whatever, exit out to the main menu, and when I go to load my "my gm" file, it saved over my blazer file with the "start now" file.

Wtf! I had 4 #1 draft picks, I was looking to stockpile and pick up Lebron James Jr. in a few years.

Even digital blazers get fucked.

Started over, my lineup in 2018/19 is

Dame
CJ
KCP
Nurk
Mohamed Bomba

With lonzo ball, Eric Bledsoe, isiah hartenstein on the bench. Made it to conference finals last year. Have 7 #1 picks next year to try to nab Zion and Bol again.

@Sarni thought over here might be better to talk this.

I have Xbox one so I'm not sure if I can get his class, but I'll take a look. Dmor is the most downloaded I think, but yeah, half the players are over 80 when they come in.

Have you tried to make your own class? Can you edit someone else's?

Yes, you can edit someone else's (need to go somewhere in setting and edit, do edit draft class) but that's a lot of work and you'd have to know the players well which I don't. I think there are some nice draft classes available on the Xbox too, I was actually playing this game on Xbox One last year and I remember I was able to find a draft class with Simmons and Ingram both around 77-78 and very accurately replicated playing style. They did have 88-89 potential but that's fair, top players from their classes should have big potential.

During the draft it is hard not to take advantage of trades being offered. If I have the 9th pick sometimes they will offer like the guy picked 3rd straight up, it's like really? Ok fine haha.

Yes, that happens very often. The mechanism is very broken this year. Also, the strategy to rebuild is very simple in this one:

1. Take crap team (Knicks, Kings, whoever)
2. Seek trades for as many first round picks as possible
3. Tank well and proper, simulate the whole season with simulator difficulty 100/100 and make sure you don't have any good players available (trade all of them for picks).
4. Wait for lottery, your pick will inevitably be in top 3, and if you have 5-6 more picks which is very easy to amass, you are bound to have at least 1-2 more in lottery.
5. Either use your first pick or flip it for a good player. I'd recommend using this to get someone like Fultz or Ball because they end up being 90 overall. You will largely get the same quality of players offered for your later lottery picks that you get for no. 1.
6. Trade for Kemba Walker Khris Middleton and Rudy Gobert/DeAndre Jordan as they are available for next to nothing, do it with your remaining picks. Best to trade anything you have in lottery because from 5-15 it makes no difference if you pick there or just select a few players after.
7. Best of all, once draft is done and you had tanked the first season, try looking for trades for your first round pick from next year. You will get crazy offers. I once had to choose between Porzingis, Draymond Green, Aldridge, Butler, Jabari Parker and Embiid (probably some more which I forgot).

Boom, suddenly you are starting Walker, Middleton, Butler and Draymond Green a year from having nobody to play. It's silly.

I usually try to keep it realistic which is why I put "Trade Approval" on and just reject a lot of trades which I don't find realistic.

Must say I am loving my current Portland line up, having developed all 2017 drafted players to their peak (I put progression rate very high to avoid having to wait multiple seasons).

Lillard 35 / Napier 13
McCollum 33 / Ferguson 15
Anunoby 25 / Ferguson 10 / Harkless 13
Markkanen 29 / Giles 19
Nurkic 33 / Adebayo 15

I must admit I have bumped Nurkic's potential to 89 as I think that is his ceiling, not 79 he originally has (that is just silly). You can do that in Roster -> Edit Player. I'd recommend adjusting a few stats at least before playing.

I am playing between this save and Philadelphia save where I am also in 2018-19 season with all players properly developed (and acquired Porzingis, through trading free agency signing Durant for him). Fultz/Monk/Simmons/Porzingis/Embiid is just crazy stuff in 2018.

Do you know if there is there a way to save my GM besides auto save?

It seems whatever team you choose pretty much is dominant in a year or two, like lillard was MVP for a couple years after starting.

Haven't done my league yet, is it basically my GM without all the pep talks and press conferences?

Yes and with ability to cut the season shorter. I play 29 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5. This way I do not have to simulate or spend 80-100 hours playing all games. In MyGM I would have to simulate a lot of games.

Downloaded the rooks. Zack had 19 mins off the bench for me and was 4-4 on 3s with 21 pts, 6 rebounds, 1 block.

I also got EmbraceThePace class but I bumped up both of them as I don't feel like waiting three seasons. Swanigan is 78 with 84 potential for me and Collins is 83 with 88 potential.

Swanigan needs different shooting form as it's impossible to hit a three with his current one. I just got him the same one that Millsap has as they have similar technique from what I have seen. Any better ideas? I thought Randolph but he shoots the ball differently.

I don't know whose technique to give Collins. I am thinking Duncan but not sure if it's going to work from distance. Any ideas? Maybe the same as Porzingis, he's very fun to shoot with and Collins could end up having similar technique. I was thinking Nowitzki but nah.
