That's awesome. Good for Sergio.

Re: OT: Sergio a starter for NY!

Good for him! Hell I might just watch a game to see how he does.

Re: OT: Sergio a starter for NY!

congrats to Sergio. Hope it all works out.

Re: OT: Sergio a starter for NY!

Well, if he can't succeed in D'Antoni's SSOL, no defense required game plan, his days in the NBA are numbered. This is the perfect storm for him. Crappy team that is tanking to get more ping pong balls, crappy player to beat out for minutes (Duhon has a PER of 10.1 playing in a system that inflates PERs by 15 - 20%), a coach that doesn't even pretend to care about defense.

Look for big numbers all around from Sergio tonight, lots of assists, lots of missed shots and lots of TOs.

Good luck Sergio.

MARIS61 will be so excited. ;)

Re: OT: Sergio a starter for NY!

What's the surprise? Everyone knows that Duhon isn't good enough to start, while Sergio started a number of games for us.

After his first game with the Knicks, many on the RealGM Knick message board (I read it because a thread on this board linked to it) said that this was the best PG they had had in many years. As I noted in that thread, D'Antoni gave Sergio 26 minutes and Duhon only 21. I knew then that Sergio would probably start the very next game.

Re: OT: Sergio a starter for NY!

Not much of a 1st quarter for Sergio. 0 PTS on 0-2 shooting, 1 AST and nothing else.

Wrong on at least two counts:

1. The Knicks are not tanking - if anything, they're desperate to win. Why? Because Utah has their pick. Imagine the fans' reaction if the pick turns into John Wall.
2. D'Antoni needs a PG who can shoot, so his system is not "perfect" for Sergio. It's perfect for Steve Nash.

Well, other than perhaps Golden State (who also like PGs who can shoot), there really isn't a better fit for Sergio in the NBA than the Knicks.

If he can't make it there, he can't make it anywhere.

His inability to shoot the basketball will always make him a liability on any NBA team - which is why this might be his last chance to earn a second contract.

1-5 tonight, with 1 AST and 1 STL so far tonight.

Same old Sergio.

Re: OT: Sergio a starter for NY!

BNM, why do you hate Sergio so much?

BNM, why do you hate Sergio so much?

I can't speak for BNM, but I kind of disliked his 'demeanor' (sort of pouty) and his defense made my eyes bleed ... but more than anything I got sick of hearing Maris jock him all the time.

Re: OT: Sergio a starter for NY!

I'm not a big fan of players who can't shoot, don't play defense, turn the ball over at an alarming rate - who have the EXACT same flaws in their game as a 4th year player as they did as a rookie.

I don't hate him. I'm just not a fan and found the endless (still ongoing) excuses and jock riding of the Sergio fan boys tedious.

Re: OT: Sergio a starter for NY!

Prepare for a life of tedium, because Sergio is in the league to stay. Knick fans were agog at two of his spectacular passes.

Re: OT: Sergio a starter for NY!

Like Blake, Sergio can start on bad teams. When it comes time to put a winning team together, they deserve no more than 20 minutes a game. Even less in Sergio's case.

Someone has to suit up for bad teams.

So you don't like Miller :dunno:

Sergio wasn't even good enough to get PT on a crappy SAC team with a coach who likes to run.

He was racking up DNPs like crazy - and all the while the Sergio fanboys were making excuses about why the Kings NEEDED to play Evans to justify his high draft position and NEEDED to play Beno Udrih because he makes more money than Sergio.

Just like they always made excuses for him in Portland.

Newsflash! When you're good, you don't need excuses. When you're the third best PG on one of the worst teams in the league, that speaks volumes for your worth as a player.

I assume your joking, because Andre Miller is 10x the player Sergio Rodriguez will ever be.

Miller's career FG% is 0.449. Sergio's is 0.404. Miller's career TOV% is 16.3, Sergio's is 22.8. Miller's career DRtg is 108. Sergio's is 110. Millers career PER is 18.0. Sergio's is 12.9.

Miller is better on all accounts - and he's done it his whole career as a starter playing against the best PGs in the league - not as a 3rd string, garbage time stat padder.

Sure seems like you hate him.

Nope. Dislike his game. Don't hate him.

I also dislike so-called fans who root for our current players to fail and our former players to succeed - just so they can someday, possibly say "I told you so".

Re: OT: Sergio a starter for NY!

He has a career high 6 steals in 26 minutes tonight. Unfortunately, neither he nor his teammates can buy a bucket. And no one can seem to stop Bogut.

I'm watching that game on atdhe.net and man (steals aside) his on-ball defense is brutal.

Re: OT: Sergio a starter for NY!

And Al Harrington might be the most selfish player in the NBA.
