Merged: Quick reports talks with Hedo's agent / Hedo Turkoglu discussion

So how was dinner, Hedo?

It's 9:30 p.m. here in the eastern time zone, so Nate and Hedo must be finishing up their dinner in Orlando right about now. Let's hope that it went well, and that everything Nate said about the Blazers had a pleasant taste to Hedo!

2009 cap space can be rolled over into 2010 cap space... it's not like it goes away or they had to have used it this year.

The Nets could have just spent less on their team this year than they otherwise will be and saved their ownership millions (maybe lots of millions) of money now.

Alternatively, they could sign a player or two to a big one year deal and let him walk at the end of the season... or try to turn around and trade him for an expiring contract and other value after December.

Either way, they have 2010 cap space.

They have to have a payroll of around 40 million, not sure the exact number.

I hope to God Nate didn't tell him that despite being better, he would still play Blake Outlaw ahead of him because he is "comfortable" with Travis and Steve.

Yep. Cap space carries over, but not all of it.

Where's Hedo? He's in Portland right? Let's go MOB him!

I have a shirt I am very comfortable in. Unfortunately it has holes in it and smells bad.

So it's just like Blake and Outlaw.

Maybe you should try washing the shirt . . . and the holes gives it personality. :D

Sorry for the delayed response... but this isn't necessarily true. It depends on how much your existing contracts increase and what the salary cap does (go up or down).

NJ is at ~$57m in salary cap use right now. About $13m of that is from the Orlando trade. The Nets seemingly might have been willing to save that $13m in salaries for 09-10 and they'd have that same space available next year.

I don't understand how any of it would disappear for next summer.

He just left my house. Not sure where he's headed next. Think he was gonna take in The Pearl?

Damn if he does. I am making him boiled eggs as we speak and they do not get better with age.

07/03/09 Hedo in town:

Hot sunny day (in the 90s), tour of the facility, one on one meeting with KP, no other team competeing for Hedo . . . where is the friggin announcement? :D

I think Hedo will end up in Ptd . . . but after hearing that interview, I would not be surprised if he re-signed with Orlando for less money. The guy is coming off a world championship series, the Magic got better, Dwight has shown him some love and it doesn't suck to live in Florida.

Really? Look how many times he has to correct himself!

I have kind of been undecided about Turkoglu, but the more I think about I think he's the right fit.

Interesting, I got the exact opposite impression you did. It sounds like he can envision himself playing the "wily veteran" role.

That photo of Hedo with KP at PDX is a little bit surreal.. like this is really happening. I trust the Blazers' brass that they know what they're doing and they have a plan with this. I'm more and more on board with Turkeyglue.

No way he goes back to Orlando, especially since they replaced him the second he turned down their offer.

It may seem like the Raptors are mere spectators in this free-agent circus, but they're quietly active behind the scenes. The team has had exploratory talks with several free agents, though they have yet to offer a contract to anyone. Before Trevor Ariza agreed to a five-year, $33.5 million deal with Houston, the Raptors discussed a potential five-year deal worth more than $39 million with Ariza's agent, David Lee.

Toronto has had similar talks (for different amounts of money) with several other players, including Linas Kleiza, David Lee and Hedo Turkoglu. Several league execs believe Turkoglu prefers to play in Toronto (because of its international character) instead of Portland, but it's not clear whether the Raptors will make an offer.

By renouncing Shawn Marion, Anthony Parker and Carlos Delfino and waiving Quincy Douby, the Raptors could clear enough cap room to offer Turkoglu $56.5 million over five years. But that would force the Raptors to fill out their roster with minimum-salaried players, and they're worried about not having enough depth. So at present, they're leaning toward re-signing Marion and Delfino.

Once the Blazers make an offer to Turkoglu, the Raptors will decide whether to try and outbid them.

Re: Quick reports talks with Hedo's agent / Hedo Turkoglu discussion (MERGED)

A person involved in the Hedo Turkoglu sweepstakes said there is no news yet on Toronto's role in the recruitment of the Turkish free agent. Turkoglu met with Trail Blazers officials in Portland Thursday, and he was expected to receive an offer in the five-year, $50 million range. Toronto's front office has been deliberating whether to pre-empt the Blazers with a more lucrative offer, but that would involve renouncing the rights to three players: Shawn Marion, Carlos Delfino, and Anthony Parker. If the Turkoglu situation drags on, it could be an indication that a more creative path out of Orlando -- as in, a sign-and-trade -- is being explored. One rival executive expressed curiosity as to why Turkoglu and the Magic wouldn't want to explore such an avenue. Turkoglu would get an extra year, and Orlando would get something back.

The Raptors are another team just throwing darts at the wall.. they've got no plan whatsoever.
