Most of the Milwaukee Bucks coaches and players had already departed the premises.

The only ones remaining on the basketball court at the Cousins Center – the Bucks’ training facility in St. Francis – were rookie forward Joe Alexander and a camera crew from NBA Entertainment.

With cameras rolling, Alexander put on a show. The highly-athletic Alexander did a myriad of scintillating dunks that would have undoubtedly brought nods of approval from Dr. J. or Air Jordan if they were in attendance.

The 6-foot-8 Alexander repeatedly rose gracefully above the rim before throwing down a thunderous dunk.

One time, Alexander took a few steps before ascending to the point where his head was level with the rim.

Alexander then banged his forehead against the rim not once but twice while delivering a dunk.

Standing at the opposite end of the court, Bucks center Andrew Bogut thoroughly enjoyed Alexander’s gravity-defying feat, so much so that he wanted to see Alexander do it again.

And Alexander did.

Many more people may get the opportunity to see Alexander's high-wire act in February during All-Star Weekend in Phoenix.

Alexander is one of three NBA rookies who'll compete for a spot in the Slam Dunk contest. The other two rookies are guard Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder and swingman Rudy Fernandez of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Re: Rudy, Alexander, and Westbrook to compete in online dunk contest tryouts

What! Bayless better stay after practice to show some of his stuff too.

Re: Rudy, Alexander, and Westbrook to compete in online dunk contest tryouts

I want Rudy to be either in the dunk contest or the 3 point shootout. He has a quick release, so that'll help him in the 3 point contest. Rudy is currently shooting the 3 at a 40% clip, so I think that's good enough to get some consideration. I wonder if Outlaw would be willing to do the 3 point contest since he's our top 3 point shooter right now.

Re: Rudy, Alexander, and Westbrook to compete in online dunk contest tryouts

interesting.... We all know rudy can get up, but I do not see a dunk contest participant in him. I hope he proves me wrong.

I'll settle for him playing in the Finals this year.

Re: Rudy, Alexander, and Westbrook to compete in online dunk contest tryouts

If Rudy doesn't get into the 3PT Contest, something is seriously wrong. Last time I checked he was third or tied for second in 3 Pointers Made, and does it at a high clip. So yeah, he should be in that at the very least. He'll probably already be there for the Rookie/Sophomore game, so it makes sense to have him in the 3PT contest. I expect it to happen.

Re: Rudy, Alexander, and Westbrook to compete in online dunk contest tryouts

Hey, if Rudy gets into the dunk contest, that means Sergio will most likely get a cameo in All-Star weekend. I bet they can create some nice dunks with each other.

So you want to trade him to Boston? ;)

Seriously though, the Blazers making the Finals would be 100x better than a Blazer making it to an All-Star event. But who says we can't do both?

Rudy for 4th spot in dunk contest?

Heck yeah!!! That would be rad!!!

Nate Robinson
Dwight Howard
Rudy Gay

Then they said either Rudy Fernandez, Russel Westbrook or Joe Alexander.

Voted. Anybody checked to see if we can vote more than once per day? I noticed that the text you had to enter for the verification looked like it was not randomly generated, so we might be able to script voting. Maybe a couple of million votes for Rudy per day?

The verification text appears to be randomly generated. I voted twice and the first time the text was "clutch" and "quarter" was the 2nd one.

Re: Rudy for 4th spot in dunk contest?

I don't think so. All 3 of them got major dunks and the NBA likes to showcase rookies and younger players in the dunk contest.

Which, in my opinion, is retarded. The slam dunk contest is garbage compared to what it was like when they got actual stars to do it. I wanna see Jordan vs Wilkins again, not Nate Robinson taking 14 tries on an impossible dunk.

True though. I am really, REALLY sick of seeing Nate Robinson. That was pretty lame of them to pick him again.

I feel the same. Robinson for the 3rd year in a row? I wanna see someone else.

As a side note, don't think it won't be a story how Rudy dunked on Dwight in the Olympics if he's going up against him in the Slam Dunk competition.

rudy has certainly never had the type of "major dunk" that would indicate he has the ability to do anything entertaining or special in the dunk comp. outlaw would be a better choice.

If anyone were to compete in the dunk contest from our squad, I think it would have been Bayless. However, he really hasn't had enough time to prove what he can do.

Agreed. I would rather have Outlaw be in the dunk contest. I don't know if Rudy has the hang time/vertical to compete, but maybe he'll prove me wrong.

VOTE FOR RUDY!

What has Outlaw ever done that would warrant a "major dunk" ? And please don't say that dunk on Rodney Carney. That was a poor mans hi-light dunk. It was nothing special and he has done nothing else even close to a "major dunk".

I see Outlaw over and over again... in games. Wide open fast break and just do some lame ass dunk. Rudy would make it interesting.

P.S. So that dunk over Howard in the Olympics wasn't a "major dunk" ??? The dunk seen around the world?

Re: Rudy for 4th spot in dunk contest?

he's had several that would translate to some potential for looking good in the dunk comp, although he might not have the confidence to pull it off.

P.S. So that dunk over Howard in the Olympics wasn't a "major dunk" ???

not in terms of what would look good with nobody guarding him, no it wasn't. he barely got above the rim.

Can you use one of the other competitors as a prop?

I'm not sure if you're being serious with this question, but yes, I believe you can use the other competitors as a prop, assuming they're willing.

Gerald Green jumped over Nate Robinson (who was also in the contest) for a dunk in the 2007 slam dunk contest.
