The New Jersey Nets are in advanced discussions to send Vince Carter(notes) to the Orlando Magic for Rafer Alston(notes), Tony Battie(notes) and Courtney Lee(notes), a source with knowledge of the negotiations told Yahoo! Sports.

If the Nets move Carter, they will draft Louisville shooting guard Terrence Willams at No. 11, if he’s still available.

The source categorgized the deal as “close” and it could be consummated by the end of the night.

Their owner said he was willing to go into luxury tax territory to keep Hedo around. I don't know why that would suddenly change.

this deal does nothing for ORL unless they find a way to keep Hedo...even then..Jameer, Dwight, Hedo, Shard, VC....those guys only have ONE ball..I could smell chemistry issues

Because I doubt you can play Rashard, Hedo and VC together for very long and paying them that much money would be really dumb.

Well if they want to pay $60-65 million to just four guys on the team.. then more power to them. But that's a boatload for a team that was concerned about paying the luxury tax just a few weeks ago.

How many dollars is a championship worth? I don't think it was that long ago wasn't there a baseball team where the owner stacked on the talent and payroll for one year so they could win it all and he could put the franchise on the market? I think it was in Florida....

Orlando needs to show Dwight the organization is committed to winning, and apparently this must be one way to show it (this and keeping Turk)

I understand the Magic willing to go over the cap to keep Turk . . . but to keep Turk and bring on Carter puts them way over the cap and seems like drastic change from their money conscious ways. But to just bring in Vince and let Turk go seems like an odd way to allocate salary money . . .

A lot of times, late in stars careers, if they haven't got a ring, they start ring chasing and doing whatever is necessary to get there. I can see Vince taking a back seat if necesary in order to get a ring.

Courtney Lee's PER last year: 10.8 regular season, 9.3 in the playoffs.
Vince Carter's PER last year: 19.3.

It might be an overstatement to say Courtney Lee is a scrub... but then again it might not be. He's going to be 24 in October, so he is not exactly a young player, and he's CERTAINLY no VC.

Lee may not be real young, but he did well for a rookie. That's a big adjustment no matter what age you are and he'll get better.

For a 20 year-old kid that sort of pathetic production is more excusable to me than a guy who's more physically mature.

So how does his PER show his defensive ability? It doesn't. His ability to guard a variety of perimiter players cannot be stated by the stats. I also really don't care about the state because I watched the guy and he is a pretty good player. Star? Nope. Good player though.
