Just reported out of Houston per Daryl Morey.

Guess we'll see more of Brent Barry tonight.

EDIT: Due to back spasms.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

Do you think this is a good or a bad sign?

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

that's a fucking great sign for us.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

well von has been unstoppable almost at some points in the series. barry can shoot but is not even the same in terms of explosiveness...but brent will make the smart play if he is playing late in the game.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

Think Brent Barry could chase Fernandez around for 20 minutes though? With Wafer, the Rockets have a lot more explosiveness and quickness in the backcourt. Barry can still run the court but he's limited defensively at his age. The Rockets also lose a penetrator on offense, although Barry is a much better playmaker and a solid shooter.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

And Brent Barry hits the game winning 3, down 2 with .7 seconds to go. :tsktsk:

Now can someone please make a thread called "Luis Scola out tonight", or "Yao Ming out tonight".

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

I saw him tweak his back, it was on a drive late. He twisted in the lane and came down funny. At about 3/4 court running back he reached down and grabbed his lower back. I told my friend that he looked a little gimpy after that. I never want anyone to get hurt, and he has been playing well.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

MSP on The Game just had a Houston reporter on to talk about tonights game and he didnt mention anything about Von Wafer being out.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

Then hopefully he plays injured, and isn't as killer on us.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

he has had 2 great 1st halfs against us down in houston

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

The thing that worries me about this.. is now the Rockets have someone who can and will make a post entry pass to Yao.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

if true, gives us one less bench person to worry about, now STAY on Landry and in FRONT of Lowry

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

Von Wafer out at home is a good thing for the Blazers . . . I guess Von Wafer out period is a good thing for the Blazers, but it seems home court sets the stage for outside shooter to light it up and have a big night.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

Seems strange that a GM would announce this so early on a game day.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

Von never really played too much with Yao in the game

While I agree with you there.. but I doubt Adleman would just try and plug Barry into Wafer's role... I could See Brooks playing more of Wafer's scoring Role and using Barry more in the slown down halfcourt PG role.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

I sense some mind games of the part of Morey. He's doubtful but not definitely out. Even though he's just a bench player, he's still probably part of the game plan to defend against for us. Interesting stuff.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

Trip, thanks for the scoop. Repped!

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

One bad trip down the lane against Oden and he may be out anyways.

Brent Barry is a good 3 pt shooter and is, IMO, a little more smart in his play. Maybe smart is a bad word, I don't want to call Von Wafer stupid, how about veteran saavy? I think in terms of driving to the basket and defense, Wafer being out gives us an advantage but in other aspects, Barry is better.

True, but as Wheels said on The Game, Barry cant guard anyone on our squad. Roy, Outlaw, and Rudy should be able to score at will against him. Barry chasing Rudy around would be funny to watch.

Barry brings savvy and better defensive positioning, but he's a bad matchup across the board. Rudy will try to run him to death, Roy is too strong for him and Batum and Outlaw are too long. Brent was a terrific role player, but he's lost a step.

There is no way this is anything but bad news for Houston. I suspect Wafer will give it a go. I think it's fair game to start running him through multiple screens to test just how serious his back problems are.

Wafer is stupid, but he has very bad judgment.

Kenny Smith said it best during Inside the NBA while discussing Josh Smith. The real difference between a great player and a bad player is judgment.

Long way of saying that Wafer isn't all that good a player.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

Must take advantage of a time to give a former OSU Beaver some love. He's the only white guy to ever win the dunk contest.

Re: Von Wafer out tonight

It basically means Houston is left with Aaron Brooks as their loan dribble penetrator. Also, like the Mutombo injury, it forces the Rockets to have to change their rotation.

Artest and Battier are already at 40 mpg, so they can't go there. I doubt they really want to throw Barry into the fire. My guess is Lowry and Landry sop up those minutes, going from around 12 mpg to 20 mpg each. They may throw in Barry in offense situations for a play or two.

It often seems like the playoffs are about who is healthy more than who is better.
