Re: What happens with Gomes?

If they dont renounce Gomes, they are over LT.... thats what i read somewhere

Ah, I thought BrianFromWA or someone said that the team was like 55k over the cap and that you could conceivably drop back under but then you'd lose the MLE. Something like that. But then I also thought I read Presti had been extended and it was Petrie. So I'm far from certain.

Re: What happens with Gomes?

But i do still think that Paul ould get an MLE, he doesnt care about an extra 6 mil

Portland is just over the tax with everyone signed. Once you add the rookies, Gomes's $4.2 Million salary, and a $5.8 Million MLE player, you're going over the tax.

LT in 09 was 69. Currently the Blazer Roster on July 8th is 68, so with an MLE, everything is double

Okay. I guess whatever I read was referring to luxury tax threshold, not cap.

Yes they are 55 over the cap as of today, not as of july 8th

We will pay 2M to move up 10 spots in the second round, but we will not go into the luxury tax to use our MLE? Not for sure on that one.

I think the Beasley for Gomes would be the best we could hope for, but also think Miami would be better off waiting to use him in a sign and trade. Not holding out much hope we do anything except waive him at 3pm.

Exactly

Re: What happens with Gomes?

That's what I'm thinking. He spent 2 million for Johnson, a guy who might not even make the team. Really 2.5 if you factor in what his salary would be.

I want to use the MLE. I also don't want to waste Gomes' contract, if at all possible. I think it has value, if for nothing else, than a future first rounder at the cost of a salary or two. But I like the idea of adding expirings, or a large expiring, to pair together. LT isn't determined until the end of the season, so we'd still have an opportunity to look to get under it, if or when we moved those expirings for a better player.

ok, is it 3PM PT or EST, cause im reading conflicting reports

I was sure it was 3PM PT

Man, if we do luck into Beasley in a few hours, you would not want to be the GM for the T-wolves today.

We don't have enough time for everyone as it is. Our starters are presumably all going to take at least 30 minutes or more per game, right? Miller, Roy, Batum, Aldridge and Oden (hopefully). Then you have Camby's $11 million dollar ass coming off the bench (Who can take both the backup C and PF mins), along with Babbit, Rudy and Bayless (Assuming there's no trade). Where do you put Gomes and an MLE player without pulling off a trade first?

Assuming no trade, then there is no minutes, perhaps. Although, you seem to want to use the MLE. Where does THAT player get minutes? There are none even for a MLE type player. Trade Gomes for Beasley to take backup minutes at the 3 and 4. Use the MLE on JJ Reddick to take backup minutes at the 1 and 2. Move Bayless, Rudy, Miller and Joel for Tony Parker. I dunno. Regardless, if there are no minutes afterwards, there's really no minutes for the MLE player right now.

To be honest, I'm fine with waiving Gomes and not using the MLE. If we do use the MLE, I'd prefer it be used after a couple pieces (Rudy, Bayless possibly, Miller, etc.) are consolidated for a better talent.

It'd be tough to wait to use the MLE until after a trade, at the risk of who you want being gone.

I'd rather not go through logjams at all cost. We were "spared" (If you want to put it that way) last year because of the injuries.

IMO, I think we should waive Gomes and go all out for Anthony Morrow.

For everyone who was espousing Gomes' great talent after the trade, here's to you being wrong.

If he had such great talent, he'd be kept on the roster, as money isn't an issue with Paul Allen. He burps $10M when he gets up in the morning.

We are now a lesser team without Martell Webster. That trade, by the way, was not Pritchard's as he had no say on draft day about anything.

So far under the post-Pritchard regime, we've lost our greatest defender from last year's playoffs in Martell Webster, while at the same time losing our 2nd best perimeter shooter. What we gained for 2010-11 was a player who won't play 700 minutes next season (less than Bayless played while he wasted away his rookie season). We opened up more time for Dante Cunningham, which is a good thing, but it's not as good as having Martell. Batum would have gotten 28 minutes per game with Martell, and he's still going to get 28 minutes per game without Martell.

2nd best perimeter shooter? No. The dude shot 41% from the field last year. There are 12 players that played for the Blazers last year that shot better. Are you talking 3pt % exclusively? Then he would be 4th behind Batum, Blake and Outlaw.

...because Oden, Przybilla and Batum were all injured, Cunningham didn't get any PT, and we hadn't drafted Elliot Williams yet.

Actually, I think Camby and Aldridge were better defenders in that series than Webster. Anyway, it's a pretty silly argument to say we can't trade a guy because his defense was somehow invaluable in a series we lost 2-4.

I'm happy to see more time freed up for Cunningham and Babbitt.

I'm thinking his waiving was agreed to prior to the trade for Babbitt. I expect Gomes to resign with the Wolves with the Blazers paying part of his salary. Gotta love Paul Allen!

Now I really don't like this trade.

Hopefully they utilize the trade exception . . . if I read how this works.

There is only a 500,000 trade exception, not one for the full amount of Gomes' salary.
