Merged: Who would you give up for Paul George?

Neil needs to do what ever it takes to make this happen

Even if PG gets here and then leaves, its still a win for Portland. $19 million off the books

I agree with you. I have never been a fan of the Dame/CJ starting backcourt. I would trade CJ for Klay, but CJ is locked in for four (or is it five?) more years starting next season. Klay will be a free agent. It would be a hard pill to swallow if we traded CJ for Klay and then Klay left.

Thompson is signed for two more years--he'll be a free agent in 2019. Regardless, the Warriors wouldn't do that trade. Thompson is a perfect fit on offense and a much greater defensive asset than McCollum. I think the Warriors will eventually deal Thompson, to avoid $300M yearly costs, but they'd deal him for young prospects/picks. Not for another expensive star.

Definitely not saying they would do it. Just saying that it would be a pretty big gamble from Portland.

kinda like fucking all your significant others friends if they break up with you.

cold blooded yet so satisfying.

Sure, but this is contingent on:

Rule 1. Be attractive.

Rule 2. Don't be unattractive.

well in this analogy, the lakers are absolutely hideous looking with a horrible personality. But they live in a really nice part of town...

They're hideous with a horrible personality, but they're loaded...... because women NEVER marry for money, am I right? :bgrin:

I have a some real doubts about Dame/CJ/George being able to coexist. Would CJ really want to be the third banana?

Rooks: Paul George. You want Paul George to be a Blazer?

McCollum: I think this is tampering. At this point, I tweeted it. So, we have to be careful with what we say. I don't know what type of viewership we're facing here, gonna face right now with this."

Rooks: OK.

McCollum: I read something that said I could get tampering. I don't want to get fined $25,000.

Rooks: I'm with you. I mean, even though you got that $100 million. You don't want to get fined.

McCollum: You gotta be smart about it. I don't want Mr. (Trail Blazers owner Paul) Allen being upset at me. They asked me a question on Twitter. They said, 'Who would you like to see?' and I was like, '@YGTrece.' Why not?

He would look good in red and black that’s all.

Griffin will be a free agent. Why would he re-sign in Indy? I think they'd just be in the same boat with a different player.
I was just noting that Clippers interested in George, not suggesting they trade Griffin for him.

Here's an interesting scenario.

If it would cost the same to get either (let's say Crabbe + 20+ 26), would you want:

A. Paul George (without a guarantee that he will stay past 2018)
or
B. Kevin Love (on contract until 2020)

Love.

Hate to break it to you guys, but George isn't going to help us be better than GS next year... and then he's gone. At least Love gives us some flexibility and a decent shot at retaining in FA, and even though GS is a bad matchup for him, he would be a nice fit next to Nurkic.

I know lillard said that. Who said 'fuck lillard' tho? That was quite a stretch.

No one said that. But fuck PG was said because it's been reported that he wants to go to LA. I simply asked the question if we should say that about Lillard bc of his tweet.

Woj Podcast on PG: https://art19.com/shows/vertical/episodes/8c6dc8c3-2b5f-4961-820a-0a77e24ab54c

Tidbits:
  • Because Larry Bird is still part of the pacers org. Woj doesnt think they trade him to LA
  • PG's camp doesnt really have motivation to facilitate trade for Indiana - he'd rather not switch teams and would like to play out the season
  • Woj thinks that theres still a risk for LA if they don't trade for him, if PG gets traded, he might love where he goes (Boston was used as an ex)

Apparently, 2/3 of the respondents would deal Crabbe and 2 picks for George even with the caveat of him being guaranteed to leave after one year.

I wonder how many of the people voting on the poll actually listen to the show, because their tweet doesn't quite communicate the intention of their poll very well. IMO, you trade picks for George with the hope of being able to keep him if he elevates the Blazers to contender status. Absent that slim possibility, you don't make that move.

The poll includes a false assumption. There is no guarantee he leaves. I'm sure a lot of people voting are considering the odds he might stay, even though that's not the question.

I would absolutely do that deal, because there is a strong chance the team would be a contender, and therefore a reasonable chance that he'd stay.

Do you want 'Melo, or do you want Love? Because I think Cleveland would prefer 'Melo to Love, and I think I'd prefer Love to 'Melo.
Easy: I'd prefer Love to Melo on this team.

Nah.

Here is more from Wojnarowski, considered by most to be the guy with the most inside NBA knowledge:
Paul George wants to be Mr. L.A.
Paul George grew up in Northern Los Angeles watching Kobe Bryant and the Lakers (as well as the Clippers). There have been rumors for years that his one goal as a player is to go play in L.A. someday. Considering the Pacers' current situation and lack of direction there isn't really a better time for George to pull the plug and say it's time to do what he's always wanted to do -- go play for Los Angeles.

The signs have been there for a long time with George growing up idolizing Bryant as a player. He entered the NBA wearing number 24. One of the first coaches he ever worked with, Brian Shaw, used to tell him stories about Bryant. This is George's chance to be the next Kobe on a Lakers team that currently has a lot of young assets, but no stars. He can be the big man in Los Angeles like he's always wanted to be.
Fuck the NBA

PG

I wouldn't do the other deal.

I must have imagined all those beat LA chants. I must have imagined the lakers being the only thing standing in between us and a championship or two. Weird.

I have a some real doubts about Dame/CJ/George being able to coexist. Would CJ really want to be the third banana?
Didn't CJ tweet or instagram or whatever those crazy kids do these days that his number one preference for an off season acquisition is Paul George?

Kevin Love could really be a major talent upgrade on our roster, in a total vacuum. But we don't live in a vacuum. With the way the NBA game is, you can't have Love at the 4 chasing around faster stretch 4's all game. He doesn't have the foot speed. Our defense would go from bad to worse instantly.

I agree on all of the above. The problem--and the basis for the poll--is that the radio guys were saying that even if he were guaranteed to leave next summer, they'd still do that deal, which seems silly to me.
