I guess PA decided that he doesn't want people to carry guns to the games, even if they are lawfully allowed to do so. I don't like that, but I don't hate it enough to quit going to games.

Perhaps more importantly, I'm guess metal flasks will also not be allowed.

that blows. I liked being able to just walk in to the arena instead of emptying pockets.

I don't see any big whoop about it. After seeing some of the heated arguments over games and stuff, it's probably for the best. Just because somebody can carry a gun legally doesn't mean they are responsible.

It's an NBA policy, not one coming from the Trailblazers. Heightened security at random games throughout the year.

I think they're doing it in Portland only so L*ker fans can't cry "profiling..."

A big piece of this probably has to do with a certain guy named Gilbert Arenas....

That's why my back-up is glass with a plastic cap

I don't carry to the games, so it's not that big a deal to me either.

But, if I did carry to the games, the case I would make would be:

Huge, young, drunk asshole fan for another team says, "FU, I'm going to follow you out and cut your freak'n throat after the game. If I'm carrying, I laugh him off. If I'm not, I can try to deal with it through the securty/police, or worry about whether I'll get to my car in one piece.

Nobody is hating the idea that you can't carry your stainless steel flask with the pinwheel to the games?

So you think the metal detectors go away after this game? Just ask'n, because I don't know.

Luckily you'll know he doesn't have a knife on him because he too went through the metal detector!

What like there aren't plastic flasks? Hell I am more worried for the folks whose hide a pipe is metal. :pimp:

Wherever you go in life, there is a chance for trouble. You can't pack a gun everywhere, that's just the way it is. The reality of the situation with Gilbert Arenas is that the NBA wants to make its fans feel safe. IMO, I wasn't realy worried about the guns, I was more worried about say, a suicide bomber with tons of metal balls in a vest.

Actually, on someone else's private property, you're only allowed to carry on their whim. From here: http://oregonfirearms.org/faq/

Private property is private property.

The owner of the property can make it a condition of access that you dress only in plaid or wear a bunny suit. (Fortunately, this happens with relative infrequency.)

Thus, a restaurant, home or private hospital CAN tell you you are not allowed in with a firearm.

This, however, then becomes a trespass issue, meaning if you DO go somewhere private with a gun, they can ask you to leave. If you don't, you are trespassing.

There is nothing else in the law dealing with this issue.

Just sayin'.

Yeah, I understand that they are within their rights on private property.

Good point above about the knife and the metal detector.

I don't think it's a new policy (no guns at the RG), but that they just haven't done much enforcement around it.

John Hinkley nearly assassinated Ronald Reagan to try to impress Jodie Foster. Is it really so improbable that some hardcore insane fan packs a firearm into an arena, has too much to drink, and starts taking shots at the other team's star player? Or a ref after a bad call? Or Chris Anderson just because he's a douche?

Well, I guess I could live with the second two possibilities. But as a fan of a team with a superstar and a hell of a lot of bad luck lately, I'd just as soon remove the possibility....

Yup. I think this was a policy put in place by the NBA last year as a contingency. I think it was triggered by the heightened alerts caused by the Undiebomber...

...or maybe they think Hibachi's Pistol Pete impression might light a fire under some moron's ass to actually shoot a player.

They have metal detectors to get into the Ghetto, er, I mean Oracle Arena down here. While I don't mind it too much, I always thought it was a much more relaxing and nice atmosphere at the RG without having the metal detectors.

Maybe it's because the Grizzlies have a known Taliban member on their roster and The Hoop Family will be rollin' through!

Oh great. HCP put down "Taliban" in a thread and now were all going to be on the government watchlists!:pimp:

I believe its for 10 games.
I will find out later 2night when I work at the game.

so....how many people are gonna go with a gun, not knowing there will be metal detectors?

The RG only allows Multnomah Sheriff and Portland Police Officers to enter the RG with their guns. All other law enforcement must check the gun into the Command Center and be picked up after the event.

They said on last night's broadcast that they'll be set at a very low level so as not to be triggered by change or keys.

I'm so wrapping a zucchini in aluminum foil tonight...

EDIT: Anyone have a Damon Stoudemire bobblehead I can borrow?

Luckily you'll know he doesn't have a knife on him because he too went through the metal detector!

Unless, of course, he is a proud owner of a Neolitic glass steak knife, yours for only $169 + $15 shipping in the continental US.

The knife has a Whale bone handle with an authentic rawhide wrap at the blade/handle juncture. Aged and waxed.

Does that really set off some alarm? Just by typing it, Denny Crane his his special ops commando troops are gonna break down my door!

Well fuck. What's the point of everybody getting their panties in a bunch at the airport over my fingernail clippers when shit like that exists? Jesus.

If Papag weren't banned, he'd be deleting all evidence he'd been on this site at this point.
