Mexico's 32nd state!

I think the idea has merit. Frankly, California is too big. There's a real liberal/conservative divide in that state that allows a narrow majority to control the other half. It's the kind of system that can elect both Reagan and Brown. The middle dies in CA.

It looks like the new SC would take some of the most desolate parts of the state (with the exception of SD) while leaving LA and SF to CA. I imagine the biggest opponent would be liberals who attended USC, however.

All that being said, it's a fool's errand. It would create two solidly Republican Senate seats. To get it, DC would have to be made a state, and that's not happening.

OC and San Diego are desolate?

San Bernadino and Riverside counties are total shitholes though. I'm assuming the other inland counties are as well.

You'll note I excepted SD. My list wasn't meant to be complete, however. You may now try to heal your butthurt.

OC + San Diego are probably as big as Los Angeles County in terms of money and influence. This proposed new state would be economically viable. Especially when you take Sacramento Politics out of the equation, it would probably overtake the rest of California in 25 years.

plus it would take about 1/2 of California's tourism with it. major industry. If they were to do this, the rest of california would become the new "Mexican" state or a bigger liberal failure of what California essentially is right now....while the heavily republican OC/SD/Outlying areas would quickly become more based on the Texas model of things.

Just watched a show on the History Ch. tht talked about the state of Jefferson. Bandon Dunes would be there!

Finally, MY people will rise to power!

I don't disagree. I don't know what your point is. All I'm saying is that the argument from their side would be "We're leaving you LA and SF, we're getting rid of those pesky conservatives, you should be thrilled." It's a great call out to the rest of CA.

It would be a nice contrast. I can see the ad right now: "The California That Works".

The one hole in their strategy is that the first Democrat to hold the Presidency with SC as a state would take their water rights through the EPA as retribution for seceding from CA.

The only thing I remember about Riverside is the swap meet.

Hell ya! There are a couple, but the best one is at the drive-in movie! Used to go as a kid with my grandpa and uncle.
