Meyers Leonard 2.0

There was the 'deer-in-the-headlights' version which was extremely frustrating given his athletic ability. Now he is being given a 2nd chance and so far seems to have made at least some strides. In the last to games I haven't found myself doing a Meyers-induced face palm and have actually noted a few things he has done much better.

He is still making recognition/spatial awareness mistakes but they don't seem as egregious as before. Going to the Clipper game gave a little more opportunity to watch him off the ball as well and he seems a little more confident and making improvements in what he is supposed to do.

As a fan base, what (if anything) are you noticing that seems to be different?

I haven't watched his two games. But Meyers does seem to be rebounding better.

1.) He has become more aware to jump up with arms straight like freeland.

2.) offensively, he's making the passes with more confidence.

3.) nothing seems forced

He's being allowed to do things he's got natural ability at, all while legitimately aiding a top-shelf team. Must feel good for him. I'm actually really happy to see Meyers back in the rotation. He's a pretty efficient basketball player, defensive shortcomings notwithstanding.

I was thinking the same thing about Meyers, he seems to be putting it together and he also seems to have beefed up some. His shoulders and upper back are wider than I remember and I always forget how tall he is till he stands next to Lopez. I have no doubt Meyers will be a solid big in 2-3 years, which is right on track for most bigs development. As of right now I think his biggest problem is being to excited to be on the floor, he seems to over due it a little sometimes trying to get the rebound or cover his assignment, the game should slow down more with minutes though.

I don't think he's any more of a center than he ever was, but the Blazers finally got it that he'll be more comfortable at the PF position. He's been staying vertical on defense, and he really rebounded with authority last night. I think he'll contribute on offense as well with his nice jump shot.

at the very least, maybe he can learn the ropes playing a PF next to Freeland, then transition to a center.

Still gets pushed around too easily for someone his size. Needs to muscle up when he gets driven into. But I liked the effort he gave last night in terms of rebounding the basketball. If he can continue to get 7 boards off the bench and sprinkle in some blocks, I will be a happy Blazer fan.
