Meyers Leonard agreed to extension?

I thought it was a dumb move on their part. With Durant and Westbrook, why pay the max to a no defense center? He's only playing 20 minutes a game. Now what are they doing to do when a team offers Steven Adams a huge contract?

Yes; I want to believe Neil's master plan is Adams or Ibaka. Heck even Mitch McGary could be useful. So glad we don't have Kanter.

Do you think it is likely he plays this poorly for 82 games? I don't, and anything close to what he did last season in limited minutes is likely enough to garner interest from other teams. Meyers isn't going to fall out of the league if he has a terrible season this year. The skill set is there which will be enough for somebody to take a swing at him.
But he will not start no where else.

I don't think it likely he plays as horribly as he has so far, but I think it more likely he's simply meh for the season which makes him a average bench player at best

Not probable but certainly very possible. He'll make a 15 man roster. But if he doesn't shoot good three's he's not worth any NBA team putting him on the floor. I could see him only getting $1-2 million offers next season. If so not agreeing to a $6mil a yr extension yesterday could cost him $20 million. He's betting on himself but that's a hell of a big risk with so much life changing money at stake.

he doesnt need money he saved on the wedding by making a bar out of pallets. he's resourceful.

Bets on how much more it was than this?

Terrance Ross is gonna make more than Patrick Ewing in half the time!

I would be shocked if Neil offered Meyers that same $11mil per year.

Neil loves cap flexibility.

Ross has what a 50 point game on his resume? He's a superior defender and young too.

Do we actually know any of the numbers involved? If he did turn down 6 million a year from Olshey then I'd say he's taking a helluva risk.

No; unless it is a benefit to Meyers I doubt they ever leak the info. Meyers agent can say considerable and try to imply it was $10mil + next summer regardless of what it actually was. Neil doesn't leak info and helps agents.

Neil told himself last night thank you Myles for not taking the extension. Now I can get rid of you. If you see Myles minute decline guess what bye- bye.

"I really love it here in Portland and look forward to working out something next summer. I want to be here long term."

Meyers Leonard or LaMarcus Aldridge

Lamarcus Leonard!

This doesn't make a lick of sense.

Neil know he made a mistake 4 years ago drafting this kid and Myers made it easy for Neil by declining the extension. Yes he has improve over the years but not to the point where I would have him starting for me. Not to the point where I would give him 11 to 12 million a year. So my opinion is he will be traded before the end the season or Neil will not pick up his player option. To me the coach still can't trust him by fact he gave him 23 minutes last night that not starter minutes. I know Von not ready yet but look to see if he start playing more minutes in the game. He got 19 last night.

If Neil wanted to get rid of him he wouldn't have offered him an extension. I'm sure he's had ample opportunities to get rid of Meyers if that's what he wanted to do.

I don't know how much he was offer but I bet it wasn't 10 to 12 million range. If Myers believe he worth that much then let someone else pay him that price.

Leonard isn't our starter long term is he? As of now, you'd hope Vonleh is the guy who starts and plays big minutes.

In four games, Meyers has not come close to expectations (other than naysayer expectations).
  • Being out rebounded by CJ (CJ with 21, Meyers with 19 - both have 3 offensive boards)
  • Only about 16% of his rebounds are offensive (Ed, Mason, Aminu & Harkless all doing better on the offensive boards)
  • 2 for 17 from 3pt land (.118) - I'm as old as a dinosaur fart and I can do better than that
  • Being outscored by both Plumlee & Harkless - both of whom have fewer minutes played
  • Matched in scoring by Ed Davis (our head offensive rebounder) and nearly matched by Crabbe who plays a much smaller part in the overall offensive scheme of things (or was supposed to anyway)
I hope he improves but at this point, I'm not upset that he didn't agree to an extension.

Gramps...

With the cap making a huge jump this summer, Meyers was wise to wait right? Somebody will throw him a lot of money if we don't.

$11 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR FOR A PLAYER WHO AVERAGES LESS THAN 10PTS A GAME....... and does NOTHING else! HOLY SHIT!

That. Is. Ridiculous.

Probably by 2025, $25 million dollar contracts will be what the Ed Davis' of the world are making.

Not if he continues to play like he has been.

Possibly; depends what the Blazers offer was.

What he ultimately gets will depend on his play and potential he displays this year; certainly a large gamble on his part. Less of a gamble if we didn't offer him much.
