Meyers Leonard dropped out of the rotation

I think, for me, the defining moment that I came to terms about Meyers Leonard was a tweet of his I read about a month ago while on Twitter.

He said something about getting practice in with Dame....in SHOOTING drills.

I was like "really?" REALLY?! Shooting drills? Not...oh, I don't know...Defense? Stopping the Pick-and-Roll? Working on your footwork? Or even trying a layup?

That's when I decided Meyers needed to go.

Great guy. But not what we NEED. Because, as I've said before: we don't need a 7-1 SG.

Yeah, other problem is he is shooting 34% threes; below the NBA average of 35%. If he was an elite shooter it's one thing; but being a terrible defender and below average at your best skill is a problem.

How do you know Meyers never practices those other thing? Is he NEVER supposed to practice shooting? Isn't putting the ball through the basket kind of the objective of the game?

Last summer he mentioned how he doesn't believe in recruiting players and how if they want to come to the blazers, they will come to the blazers. He pretty much said he's not going to blow smoke up anyone's ass.

I'm with Dame on recruiting players. I hate it and think it should be a rule that players can not recruit other players. It's just more drama and bull shit that waters down the NBA.

Agreed - It waters down the talent spread through the league. It's the little boys club way of winning.

But, unfortunately, there's no way the league could enforce an anti-player recruiting rule.
The players will find a way to the team they want, and teams would facilitate that.

You do realize that even after they took him out in the beginning of the 4th, Brooklyn took the lead? Causation does not necessarily equal correlation. The Blazers were dropping passes in between Brooklyn defenders left and right.

He was ok tonight, better than the last couple of times. Still afraid of the basket. I remember Lillard finding him on what should've been an easy slam but instead meyers went for a layup and missed. I was infuriated. Like dude. You are 7'1. An athletic 7'1. There's no reason for you to not attack the basket with bad intentions in those situations.

His numbers are down across the board. and I think his shooting percentages are a bit misleading because of how selective he is with his shots. That is good in a way, but remember that he is limited and there are a lot of guys in the league that can hit an open jump shot.

He plays best at C instead of a stretch 4 but still has no idea what to do when teams switch and guard him with a smaller guy on the perimeter. I remember a game against the Clippers where they kept putting old, decrepit Paul Pierce on him. Doc knew Meyers had no low-post game at all even with a huge advantage. Pierce just had to stay relatively close to him on the arc and it totally negated his entire offensive game.

I agree. No one was stopping Lopez last night. Meyers only played 12 minutes (with +/- of +4 ) had 4 rebounds and was 1-1 from deep. Did he stop Lopez? No. Did anyone else?

No one played well during the run by Brooklyn. even when Meyers was out. For example Harkless tried twice to force the ball into Davis in traffic. What was Ed going to do with it? He is not the guy you feed to stop a run. The Nets made the same mistake when Thaddeus Young (and someone else ) took critical shots at the end of the game. Why did they go away from Lopez during the Blazer run? Stupid

Bottom line, Lopez got away with being physical down low and the Blazers chose not to double him. No one is going to stop him if he is allowed to initiate contact with his left arm while shooting with his right. The dude was a beast last night. Got to give him credit. And you have to give Brooklyn's defensive pressure credit as well. I get that Meyers is the whipping boy of the year, but the comeback by the Nets was not as simple as "Meyers was in there"

Based on how well Howard has done against us this year, and after they watch our film from last night knowing that Stotts does not like to double the opposing centers.......I am anticipating a heavy dose of Dwight tomorrow night. Which I am OK with. He usually gets tired by the 4th and if it keeps Harden from getting into a rhythm........

I haven't seen him this year. He's no where near as mobile as his brother, nor does he have his shooting touch or variety of moves. Lopez was unstoppable last night, that's all I know.
