Michael Young Will be Traded....

I'll agree with Hammer that Young would not be a huge upgrade, an upgrade for sure, but he's on pace for like 11 HR and less than 50 RBI's this year, and he's a poor defender, bottom line is he will help, but let's not use the word "huge" for Michael Young.

...lol..."huge" is a relative and subjective term, but if it will make everything copacetic and stop the hair splitting, and stop the use of WAR and RBIs as a gauge, I'll withdraw the term.

Note the sarcasm below... and... If you factor in his defense... is he worth trying to get? I don't know...

"Michael Young is great! Hey, forget that he has -0.6 WAR this season, he went 2-for-4 with a home run on Tuesday. His trade value just shot up. Plus he’s a veteran presence in the clubhouse! Warning: Has the range of a flower vase at third base. Beware of defensive risks if employing full time at the hot corner. The Rangers need a hitter, but at least in their case it would be to use Young at DH or first base."

...don't know how many times I have to say it, no one said that Young was a monster as far as 3Bmen go...but when you compare him with the 3Bmen the Yanx have put on the field, this year, yes, he's considerably better.

From Jon Heyman:

#yankees are still hopeful to land michael young but they haven't heard he'd approve a trade to them. #longshot

If the Red Sox pass on him we may see him approve it, just because he probably wants to get the F out of Philly, but from his standpoint it's going from done to almost done, may not be worth approving a trade for.

And Yes, Young would be an improvement, I would welcome him with open arms hoping he can help get this team going before it's too late.

@FeinsandNYDN reporting that Yankees have been told that Michael Young would accept a trade to New York.

Young is not a HUGE improvement but a considerable improvement. Isn't that what it's about, improving a weakness? Might not take much either so the value on the return has potential to be big. Things can turn for this team with Grandy returning soon, which move Well/Ichiro to a less damaging role, so it's addition plus addition by subtraction - AND, who knows, those guys may flourish in that less weighted role. You add Young and there are fewer holes. I'd love McCann to eliminate that huge hole but don't have faith in Cashman pulling off multiple moves in this 11th hour.

OK, another 2 cents here, Young would be ideal for 3B and platooning with Overbay. That said, it is an improvement, we need it to be about a 4 game improvement along with whatever other acquisitions we're getting if we are going to smell the playoffs with a third of the season to go.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Michael Young is willing to waive his no-trade clause to join the New York Yankees, baseball sources said, and now the two teams are trying to work out a deal before the 4 p.m. deadline.

.279The Boston Red Sox are also interested in Young, sources said.

If Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is suspended by baseball under the CBA, he would be unable to play even during an appeal. The Yankees have had little to no production at third base. Young could also play first base, where the Yankees have struggled versus lefties. Joe Girardi would have him DH, as well.

Young has a .770 OPS against righties and a .714 against lefties this season. He is a free agent at the end of the year.

Young, 36, is a seven-time All-Star with a career batting average of .300.

Young to Yankees won't happen and Hughes won't be traded. Basically that was just said on ESPN and MLB Network.

The Phillies have no motivation to trade Young unless they get something, and who's giving up something for two months of Young?

The Yankees have motivation to trade Hughes, and I bet some would like to take a chance on his splits, but who's giving up anything good for two months of Hughes? they probably got some crap offers.

I can see the above being true, these moves were a longshot.

rusty, it is looking like none of our hopes will come true....damnit.
