Their online stuff is awesome! It saved me $290!

What saved you $290? I bought an Office 07 upgrade in a "digital locker" last year.

Windows Marketplace [1], is a Microsoft platform for the delivery of software electronically that works with Windows Marketplace and is secured by use of Windows Live ID. The digital locker platform is comprised of four major components:

1. Windows Marketplace catalog
2. Multi merchant download cart
3. Digital Locker Assistant (a client side application that facilitates the download of purchased applications)
4. Digital Locker.

For consumers, the digital locker and Windows Marketplace can be used for purchasing and downloading third party software titles compatible with Microsoft Windows, and then using that purchased software on any computer the software license allows.

For software developers, the digital locker and Windows Marketplace can be a cost-effective channel for the distribution of their software titles.

Windows marketplace is only available for residents of the USA.

[edit] Discontinuation

On 14 November 2008, Microsoft announced that the Digital Locker will be shut down in 2009. Windows Marketplace will be drastically scaled back.

I've got vista home 64bit and have never once had a problem involving vista. Which is really quite outstanding considering all the shit I heard about it from a lot of friends. But not one problem since June (which is when I got it).

I get these all the time with programs as simple as yahoo messenger. I don't crash in XP too often.

I saw those all the time on a brand new system: quad core w/ 8G RAM, SLI MB, Nvidia Graphics card. Don't see them anymore since: http://kubuntu.com

But I do run vista in a virtual machine (virtualbox ose)

If you spend any amount of time in front of a computer at all it's worth the money to switch to a Mac. The computing experience is superior in every way.

Man, IDK, Vista 64BIT at my house is pretty damn nice.....I never have problems with it, but I do work in this industry for a living so I know how to configure it as to get rid of all the extra "filler" that came pre-configured with it...

I'd say, Vista 64 Bit, is pretty damn solid...

It happens all the time for me when I use adobe acrobat to open multiple documents between restarts. I don't know whether it is an IE problem; an Acrobat problem; a Vista problem; or maybe some sort of interference from my virus protection program.

I had a Mac and the thing completely died on me a year after I bought it. It was also pretty fucking slow if you tried to multitask with a few different programs.

Well it was still probably under factory warranty in which case they would replace it with the newest model at no charge. To Portland they use next day shipping so calling 800 MYAPPLE would have resulted in them sending you a box to return your computer, it would take a day for it to get to them, a day for them to fix it and a day to return it to you. Their service is pretty much as fast as Netflix. If not, you could have paid the extra $200 or so to get 3 years of Apple Care service. You can also take your computer to one of the many Apple stores in the area.

I've purchased several Windows laptops from Best Buy and purchased their horrendous extended warranty. When I sent my laptop in for repairs it took on average 30 days to get my laptop back, and I had to go to the Best Buy to get it since they refuse to ship them to your house. At one point it took me over three months to get a laptop back and when I got it back they had replaced many of the parts with parts from a lower end model.

And seriously, if things are slow multi tasking you can buy 4GB of ram from newegg for $57. Did you have an Intel Mac?

Denny, is Kubuntu better than Ubuntu? I haven't duel-booted Ubuntu on this computer yet, so I'd consider the switch.

kubuntu is ubuntu with the KDE 4 desktop. It's a lot sexier than the aero glass on Vista.

Oh yeah, you can print to PDF in ubuntu, too.

I think I'd actually try Mac's OS if I could legally install it on generic PC hardware. I don't want to pay 1.5x the $$$ for lesser quality hardware for an actual Mac.

If you've upgraded from Xp to Vista the its not too good but Vista built computers are top notch.

LINUX FTW

I like how Vista looks, but it blows. Therefore I have XP but with a Vista skin. So while it looks like I have Vista, it's really XP. Takes up very little resources as well. It's great.

oh yeah, BTW, to finish resolving my problem with OFFICE ONLINE regarding a purchase of a download I made a year ago (AND SAVED IN THEIR "DIGITAL LOCKER"), now fucking MICRO$OFT wants to charge me $55 just to fucking get further tech support.
