If anyone knows someone in the Blazer oranization they can attest to this. Most front office people are VERY tight lipped. Could be the residual effect from the Patterson/ Nash era. Most front office people I've dealt with seem to think that ALL Blazers are the best at their position and any lop-sided trade is offensive. Also KP walks on water and is working on a deal to fix Global Warming for a couple of 2ND round picks and Vulcan $$$ .

OK, so here Is what I came across, FWIW.

Bibby Is #1A on KP's list as of this week. Also Josh Smith Is # 1B . Going out for sure is Outlaw, Bayless, Frye and of course RLEC (Which is the only reason ATL is talking with us).

From what I gather "Sweeting the pot" meant excluding M.Williams and considering moving Smith. I am not the salary cap expert but I believe Smith is BYC. Which is always difficult to move a player. Originally It was Blake, TO, Frye and RLEC.

Draft picks are also included, either 3 or 4 2ND picks or this years First. Also PetKop rights would be going if we land Smith.

KP has got the green light to unload assets, etc to land Bibby, Smith. Remember Williams is a RFA so he could be a Rent-A-Player and Smith has a VERY reasonable contract.

Two "sources" (lol), not connected to each other, both threw out the name Bibby and Smith so I figured I'd blabber It out to kill the deal or look like a Internet Hero. Since It was getting close to the 19TH I chose to be the Internet Hero.

Like I said, Blazer front office people DO NOT discuss rumors, inuendo, happening's and that include's Spouse's believe it or not.

Thanks for the post. I really don't want to trade Bayless, as I don't see Bibby being a big part of our window, but the idea of getting Smith is a great enticement. If it was Sergio instead of Bayless somehow, or even Sergio/Blake, this would be an amazing deal. Even at current stature, getting rid of 3 bench players (although I consider Bayless the future starter), RLEC, and picks for two guys that could start now is still very solid.

Love Josh Smith.

Hate trading Jerryd Bayless.

Trading one of my favorite players for another.

PG: Bibby
SG: Roy
SF: Smith
PF: Aldridge
C: Oden

Could this be the deal (PG/SF) that Quick was talking about? Also, he said that deal with the Eastern team is "dead."

Bayless/Outlaw/Raef/Frye/Koponen

That's an awful lot and would mean, as the roster would currently stand, Sergio would be our PG of the future. *shuuder*

So are you saying that the orignal trade proposal was something like this
Bibby and Marvin Williams for Blake, Outlaw, Frye and Raef?

And now the trade is like this
Bibby and Josh Smith for Bayless, Outlaw, Frye and Raef?

Both scenarios are interesting. Not sure which one I would rather do. I think the first deal is a nice deal without a lot of risk. The 2nd deal could turn out really amazing (Smith could be an awesome defensive force with Oden) or could turn out really horrendous (Bayless blows up in Atlanta, Blazers having no long term quality point guard).

If I had to choose, I would say let's roll the dice and go with the latter deal.

So, Dufferduck, are you going to be our resident Blazer on this board now?
Any other rumors flying around?

I'm actually pretty positive Sergio could somewhat flourish with that roster if we had a different coach.

Btw, the trade works under the cap.

Frye/Outlaw/Bayless/Raef/Koponen for Smith/Bibby

However, RealGm Trade Checker had this little note on Smith's contract status:

Smith has signed an offer sheet that has been matched which means he must agree to any trade which occurs before Aug 15, 2009. However, he cannot be traded to Memphis.

Moving Blake, if healthy, to the second unit would be a huge improvement.

Blake
Fernandez
Batum
Smith (?)
Przybilla

That's a hell of a second unit.

Hm. That'd be interesting because that second unit is really a more run and helter-skelter offense that I don't think Blake could run really well. If we were to acquire Bibby perhaps Blake would be sent out for a backup PF?

Yes, I know. It was more of a veteran backup to give a few minutes and experience trade I was thinking about.

Turiaf would probably cost too much. He's actually the perfect backup.

Bibby and Smith would be pretty epic.

Smith would be a limited offensive player at the 3, but his defensive capabilities are pretty good. As a shotblocking trio, Smith, Aldridge and Oden would be awesome.

Bibby would clearly be a significant upgrade at the PG spot. I'm not excited about him on his own to move significant assets, but getting him AND Josh Smith? Yes, please!

I really am excited about Bayless but I'd be willing to move him to get these two guys.

Ed O.

I do love Josh Smith but I really don't want to lose Bayless or Travis. I love them so much.

Love this trade rumor aside from Bayless being included. Josh Smith would be an instant fan favorite.

switch Bayless w/ Sergio and fine. I wouldn't trade Bayless for Bibby.

If we are getting Josh Smith back, i'd rather trade Batum. And i'd also trade Rudy over Bayless, I think they'd take it. THey like Sergio in ATL.. give 'em Sergio and Rudy.

I highly doubt we'll deal Bayless.

I love the idea of getting Smith, but not so hyped about Bibby (because of his age, what's his contract like?).

The rumor I heard from "sources" was a PG and SF/PF from Phili who share the same first name. That rumored deal also included Bayless. :)

I guess you have to give up talent to get talent... but I'd really hate to give up Bayless, especially when you consider how old Mike Bibby is.

If Smith could fit in with this group, I'd love to have him. Isn't he playing the power forward position over there?

Also, why does Atlanta do this? They're playing great this year and I would imagine that they'd want to keep their roster intact.

Bibby is 30 (turns 31 in May) Not as old as you think. He came out after is Frosh year at Zona (remember the Bibby/Simon Backcourt that won a title?) Lots of mileage on those 30 year old legs, but he's been playing well. I don't know what his "window" would be. J-Kidd turns 36 next month and (while he's a shadow of his former self) he's still playing decent ball. Mark Jackson & Gary Payton played until about 39. It seems like must PG's start to slow down around 34/35. Some earlier, some later.

If he's 1A on Pritchard's list - than he obviously feels Bibs has something left beyond this season. I can't see him making a move with this year only in view.

I like Josh Smith, but he's where do you play him here? You think he'll be okay with b/u LA? He's not a 3, he can't shoot for dirt. 58% FT's this year and he's made 23% of 3's.

Marvin Williams is interesting, although not the best fit here either. What is he anyways? A 3? A 4? He seems like a combo forward. Shoots good, but too slow to be a 3. Nice post game, but not the most physical guy at the 4.

Maybe that's why Atlanta wants to trade Smith or Williams. Both guys are kind of stuck in between positions. They both have unique talent sets though . . . I have to say I'm more excited about Bibby. I've always loved his game. Remember, he was able to co-exist with C-Webb, Peja, B-Jax, and other scorers in Sac. He found a way to get everybody involved AND get his 15-20 PPG. They were a bunch of bad 4th quarter calls and a lucky Robert Horry shot away from (probably) winning a title, and Bibby was their Mr. Clutch. Not Webber, Peja, Vlade or anyone else. He's a good locker room guy too.

Why would Atlanta want this deal? They are currenty the #4 seed in the East. Sure, they are looking up at Boston, Cleveland, & Orlando but anything can happen. What if Labron goes down? They proved last year they can play with Boston (taking them 7 games) And Jameer Nelson is out for Orlando, which hurts them a lot. This deal is a step back for the Hawks this season, unless they are just worried about money I don't get it.

Get out of here. Andre Miller/Igoudala? That's a dream trade.

I like Bayless, but "see ya" if that is available.

hawks are not trading...they are the 4th seed in the east. stupid false rumor

Igoudala is Phili's Brandon Roy, no way they trade him. That's why I didnt take the rumor to seriously.

Well Mixum, we're #4 in the West. Are WE NOT trading?

I know you feel we are headed towards a collapse (as the roster currently is composed)

Just saying, you never know.

NO! We HAVE TO TRADE!!!! We are the ones w/ playoff experience, in the easier conference and the older team!!! We aren't incorporating any new players this year... our guys should be playing like they've been together their whole lives! WE SHOULD BE BETTER!! oh wait....

I don't believe the rumor even if it is something you heard from someone working for the Blazers.
I just don't see us including Bayless in a trade for Bibby and Smith. I love Smith's game but seems more a PF then SF and most Hawk posters seem to agree. Bibby is past his prime and IMO has maybe 2-3 good years left. That is just not what KP would trade for from what I have read especially giving up our only chance again IMO of having a really good future PG. If we made this trade we would have Smith playing out of position and clogging the middle even more and we would never be able to get the ball to Oden down low. In a couple years Bibby would be almost done and we would be way over the cap with hardly any chance to get a good PG with having middle of the draft 1st round picks and no Bayless or even PetKop to someday take over the PG position. It just doesn't make sense for us or the Hawks. I think the Hawks have a chance to beat anybody in the east after the top 2-3 teams and even then if they get a little lucky might knock off one of those teams. They would lose even more money if they have a bad team just ask the Kings. This deal is a nothing deal and I doubt it had ever been discussed.

we are trading scrubs.....the hawks would be trading key players.

with that said...i think 1 of 2 sergios good career games came against atlanta last year

I'd go for Bibby/Smith, Miller/Thad.... anything that brings back a vet point guard and a starting quality small forward, but I'd like to be able to keep Bayless at this point. We might be able to get either Bibby or Miller via free agency.
