Mike Rice: D. Williams would not hate being in portland next yr.

This fan wouldn't hate him being in Portland next year, either.

Go Blazers

I firmly believe that williams has the potential to sign here should portland luck out not only in the draft (two lottery picks) but they must be able to have the ability to pick up both batum and hickson. Should they be able to complete all of the above, I see no reason that that team on paper shouldn't be able to compete with the best in the west.

The part that scare me is the potential for nash to sign in miami. Should they be able to complete that signings, the nba might as well go ahead and engrave the trophy for the next four years without so much as a thought (which should this signing happen, I'll probably give up on the NBA as a whole due to anti-competitive practices)

i don't think that's a realistic possibility. the heat are hopelessly over the cap and don't have the assets to make a sign/trade work.

That would be a great stroke of fortune if we could sign him. It would make up for losing Roy, and also make up for the whole Webster/Telfair debacle.

Williams/Flynn
Batum/Williams (Jeremy Lamb?)
Matthews/Babbit
LA/Hickson
Freeland/Pryzbilla (Meyers Leonard?)

Agreed. We'd have a decent amount of talent (both quality & quantity), good mix of vets & youngins'. It'd be exciting.

I doubt the Heat have enough money under the cap to sign him. And even so, I'm skeptical of someone his age playing an entire season without injury or being real effective. It can happen, but the odds work against it the older he gets.

This is what it might come down to; if New Jersey lucks out and gets one of those top three picks, Williams might decide to stay; but if Portland ends up getting a #5 or#6 from NJ, then he might decide to go to Portland.

I don't see why lotto picks, here or NJ is going to entice Williams. He wants to win, not get excited about potential like fans.

Nothing the talking heads of the Blazers say should be taken seriously

If we get d will then we would be in a great position to turn things around in 1 year. Almost seems too good to be true.

Williams, two lottery picks and Hickson added to Aldridge and Batum would potentially be a very effective and extremely fast rebuild.

Well, good picks can be traded for immediate help if the club doesn't think they can draft someone who can help immediately. I also tend to think in this draft it would be possible to find immediate help in the top ten picks.

"Being in Portland" is pretty vague. Maybe he's renegotiating his Nike deal.

Right. That was more my thinking. The lotto picks as assets along with DWill, sure. But NJ winning the lotto, IMO, isn't going to entice DWill to stay in NJ. To play with a 19 year old C. I just don't see it. Who was the last all star, and top free agent who went somewhere because they were excited by who was drafted there. It's possible. I just see him being a lot more interested in coming if we had traded one of the picks, say our pick, for a better win now piece.

Really depends on who we draft.

Purely hypothetically, but if everything falls realistically perfect for the Blazers, we could land the 4th and 9th picks. Then sign Williams and resign Batum and Hickson. Draft someone like Drummond and either Beal or Rivers, and buy a pick in the teens to 20's and try to get Harkness, Terrence Jones or John Henson. This team could potentially look like this at the opening of the season

Williams/Smith
Matthews/Rivers
Batum/Jones
Aldridge/Hickson
Drummond/Freeland

With a real coach, that team is really good

Did I miss something? Has Freeland said he's coming over?

I need a link before I believe anything that old man says!

I'd be happy with a Drummond-Rivers draft. Much more so with Williams coming here. I imagine we'd see a veteran C in the mix there somewhere. Joel returning, something.

Ya. I didn't bother with the vet signings

Several of those good things are possible, but not all of them:

Sign Deron Williams to a free agent contract
NJ Pick (they don't win the lottery)
Sign Batum to contract
Sign Hickson to free agent contract
Sign Freeland to a contract

We don't have enough cap room to sign all those guys to free agent deals. We do have bird rights to Batum, so in theory we keep his rights and his $5mil cap hold, giving us a bit more cap space to sign free agents, if he is willing to wait on the other guys. But, unless they move real fast, Batum isn't going to want to wait. Promising him that he will be taken care of is against the rules.

I think with all the teams with cap space this summer, that the "losers" are going to throw stupid money at 2nd and 3rd tier players. I am looking at you J.J. Prepare to watch him bolt for silly money.

I think we can Sign Claver as well for a decent 3 year 9 mill contract. I believer he has a 1 million buyout for his current contract.
