Outside the Lines" has obtained several-dozen hours of Rutgers men's basketball practices from 2010-2012 that show dozens of incidents in which head coach Mike Rice hurls basketballs from close range at his players' heads, legs and feet; shoves and grabs his players; feigns punching them; kicks them; and screams obscenities and homophobic slurs.

About 30 minutes of the video was viewed in December by athletic director Tim Pernetti, who suspended Rice for three games that month and fined him $50,000. But the incidents in the videos obtained by "Outside the Lines" appear to go beyond Pernetti's description at the time of "inappropriate behavior and language" between Rice and his players. When he announced the suspension on Dec. 13, Pernetti offered few specifics after conducting a week-long investigation.

In addition to Rice's physical actions seen in the practices, Rice calls Rutgers players "fa--ots," "mother----ers," "pu--ies," "sissy b-tches," and "c----," among other epithets.

beat me like Mike Rice Jr on a player.

The video is pretty bad. It makes you wonder what his dad was like.

i kind of like seeing some of these pussy ass cracka athletes getting owned like that.

Gee, you mean a college coach is just like any high school football coach? Shocking!

Two football coaches on the westside are currently being sued by some of the parents on the football team for abuse to the kids.

Now not only will he be fired, but the AD will too for not firing him originally. He's the third-highest paid state employee in New Jersey - public perception will not be good.

The ridiculous thing is that he throws balls at them.

Why not wrenches?

Exactly what I was thinking. This is common practice in football coaching at young ages.

Yup, am always shocked how parents let it go on. The baseball coaches growing up were the worst offenders. Seen and heard so many stories over the years, always felt so bad for the coaches son, downright abused.

I think the mental abuse is actually a bigger deal then the physical abuse.

Well he can always go into broadcasting. (Like Knight and Majerus after their abusive careers) I watched him during the NCAA and thought he was pretty good at it.

I think anyone called any of these names by their coach and thinks it's "mental abuse" needs to grow a pair.

Rutgers is a joke if they don't fire him

What an asshat

My point is that these players are a bunch of pussies. Who the fuck cares how one is being treated on a sports team? If you can't handle it, quit.

Well, the players for one. Their parents. The alumni of the university who now get to watch their alma mater being embarrassed on ESPN. The taxpayers of the state of New Jersey who are helping to pay his salary.

Seeing as how these players earned scholarships to attend Rutgers, one assumes most had opportunities to play at other colleges - and you can be damn sure high school kids watching this and being recruited by Rutgers are going to think it is a big deal.

And I think anyone that condones these actions needs to reexamine their priorities. The people that need to bully in these cases are usually only doing so in order to deal with their own flaws and only serves to make themselves feel better about being a loser.

well, having coached at the high school level, kids are fucking pussies and punk asses. If you're not a hardass on them, they won't have the work ethic. Just like the miliatary, you have to be a hard ass to get yourself together.

So it's acceptable to just wing basketballs at a players head? Not that big a deal? Gimme a break. And don't tell me about the good old days when any dick head of a guy can be a coach and berate and abuse kids.

I never experienced this in basketball or baseball. My dad coached me for several years. He had some serious talent on his teams, including some kids whose dad's were former NBA players and they themselves went on to solid AAU careers and even college careers. And when I went further into AAU basketball, Nike leagues, and some of the baseball leagues..... I can't remember anyone being abused. Maybe I heard "sissies" a few times. Maybe "pussies" a couple times. But that was the extent.

You guys are ridiculous. He's not just being a dick to be a dick and make himself feel better. It's a style of coaching. It's been successful in the past and will be again in the future. And I guarantee he's not like this all the time, but sometimes stuff like this is useful.

Okay, the ball throwing is over the top, but grabbing an adult athlete and shoving him a little bit on the court is not a big deal at all.

Oh no he calls them fairies!!! Give me a break.
