Okay, Even if its pre-season D.Miles isn't playing very good for the Celtics. He is getting limited playing time as well. Heres some of his stats.
Oct 10 vs Cleveland: 4 min, 0-1 FGM, 0 points.
Oct 11 vs Rockets: 9 min, 0-2 FT, 1 off reb, 3 def reb, 2 blocks, 0 points.
Oct 14 vs Cleveland: 13 min, 1-5 FGM, 2 def reb, 1 steal, 2 points.
Oct 16 vs Nets: 9 min, 1-2 FT, 1 point.
I don't see him getting much playing time, definitely in the second unit for sure.

living out here, sports talk has portland cutting pruit or scalabrine. not even a mention of miles, which i though was just complete bananas. he would/should be the first name on anybodies list.

i really think that management has given a sort of gag order to the celtic media on the miles issue, at least on tv.

Whatcha expect after that long of an injury? If Oden couldn't dunk at will, his stats wouldn't be looking much better after a year layoff.

From: The Boston Herald

The Celtics are heading into their final preseason stretch with very little up for discussion. As it stands now, the only issue is who winds up being the odd man out.

Assuming a deal isn’t made to clear a spot, it’s safe to say the onus is on Darius Miles, the only C’s player of 16 without a guaranteed contract. Word is Miles needs to show he is worthy of being a key contributor - not just the 15th best player - to make the squad. He had one point in nine nondescript second-half minutes last night.

I'd say Miles being able to stick it to the Blazers for 9 million in cap space is one way to be a contributor ... maybe not for the Cs, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a Western Conference team pick him up off of the waiver wire.

If a team actually picks him up for this purpose I expect the team to appeal and win. I would be shocked if we aren't able to get the 9 million off the books.

Going off on a tangent...

1Eye, I just read your about where your name came from. Ever since I started posting 2 years ago and saw your name in various places, I thought it was a commentary on Jarrett Jack (he passed like he only had one eye). Now I don't know if I feel better or not.

Gavin was talking about it on 95.5 today... wouldn't it be something if the Lakers picked him up.

Here's the rub, how do you prove it?

The NBA-approved doctor said he was Done. His report proves Miles is physically incapable to play at an NBA level.

KP and the Blazers did their due diligence, more than abode by the rules of the CBA on it, took care of the player's rehabilitation (so there's not a Union Grievance)...so I don't see that much of a problem with the League allowing the appeal to stand if it comes to that.

As it says in the CBA...those are guidelines, and the league has final say over ambiguous CBA matters.

Au contraire, his report didn't "prove" anything, his report said that it would detrimental to Miles' health (that he would likely need a knee replacement) if he continued to play.

I agree that the Blazers did nothing wrong in seeking the medical retirement, but doctor's are not infallible.

I see...I read your comment incorrectly, Nik.

What I was saying is that, imo, in the League's eyes the doctor's report "proved" that the Blazers met the requirements for the cap relief. Whether or not he can play or another team wants to sign him as damaged goods is caveat emptor.

LOL, wish I was created enough to think of that but I wasn't. Just love playing poker and thought it was a good name to go by.

I think this is a special case. The doctor agreed with the Blazers doctor that Miles should get medical retirement. If he chooses to the ignore the doctors and further damage his knees the Blazers and the NBA can't stop him. Really the rule was put in place to prevent teams from circumventing the system and resigning that player.

Haaaaahahahahahahaaaaa!!!!

I always thought of it as a euphemism for One-eyed Wonder Worm, lol...

Well that is one of my wife's name for it. The magic wand, big 1 eye jack, and many more.

I watched him the other night and he looked slow and big. It's funny though, because you look at him on the bench and he acts like an all star. He is always sitting right next to Garnett. I'm not going to sweat it, but if he makes the team, it is only to screw the Blazers. Ainge will learn that Karma is a Bitch.

Even if he doesn't make the Celitics, if he gets 2 10 day contracts during the year (one for the suspension) . . . I think the Blazers are on the hook for his salary (v. the insurance company) and his salary goes back on the team payroll.

Is this right? Because if it is, it only takes an NBA team giving a 10 day contract to screw with the Blazers team payroll, and if the Blazers are a threat, I think some GMs are going to offer Miles that 10 day contract.

I thought he had to actually play in 10 games.

He's suspended for 10 games, which means he would have to be activated as one of the twelve available players that suit up for ten games and then and only then would he be able to enter a game -- and besides, teams don't play ten games in ten days; Miles, if retained, will get a guaranteed contract for at least the veteran's minimum.

I caught a few Celtic games and Darius looks awful.

He has zero lift. A shell of his former self. This is a bad thing considering D.Miles in his prime was just an average player, he's not an NBA calibur player anymore.

Good points nik. I guess my only thought there was teams could mess with the Blazers without committing to Miles for a year. But if the committment is the vet's minimum, that isn't exactly a hard one to do either.

Given Miles preseason, the question is how much teams want to mess with the Blazers v. wasting a roster spot.

Keep in mind that Miles has to serve his ten GAME (not ten day) suspension on the active roster, THEN play in ten games. Can't do that with ten day contracts, at least not with one team. Boston would have to waive someone to sign him, as would a lot of other teams in the NBA. Maybe the thing to do is look at which teams have (or are expected to have) open roster spots, then rank the teams on that list according to severity of the Pritchslapping they received?
