........................Miller feels the process of settling in with the Blazers is beginning -- at least on the court.

"I'm getting into a comfort zone," Miller said.

When Miller was signed as a free agent this summer, Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard said the book on Miller was that he starts the season slowly, then gradually gets better, posting improved numbers by January.

Even though a study of Miller's career numbers indicate relatively consistent statistics month-to-month, Pritchard's theory is being backed up in the first two weeks of January.

After averaging 11.1 points, 4.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 27.2 minutes in the first 34 games, Miller in five games in January is averaging 18.4 points, 8.2 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 39 minutes.

Miller said it's because he has adopted a new frame of mind.

Early in the season, he said he was "passive," spending his time studying his teammates and learning the Blazers system. He was more worried about fitting in than making an impact.

His frustration mounted. It culminated when Steve Blake was out with pneumonia and Miller still wasn't playing much in the fourth quarter. He took on more of a cavalier attitude, much of which came out during Thursday's heated, 30-minute exchange with McMillan.

"Any player can tell you, when they are not feeling comfortable, they are feeling edgy out there," Miller said. "I think ever since I have gotten here, it's been edgy -- an edge worrying about the next play, or what's going to happen if I make a mistake -- which I shouldn't be worrying about.

"At a certain point, you are going to have to go out there and do what you do and not worry about the repercussions about it," Miller said.

It's why he says that "edge" has not left him. Two of his strengths -- the lob pass and pushing the pace -- are not valued here as much as limiting turnovers. But he said at least now he understands that and is trying to fit in.

"With this team, if you make the easy plays, you are fine," Miller said.....................

ugh @ Nate.

How much sooner would he have found the comfort zone if Nate would have started the process earlier, say....in PRESEAON. There's no telling if it would have helped, but it wouldn't have hurt.

Crazy thing is, if Nic and Rudy had been healthy, Martell would have playing 10 minutes a game.

We'll see how his comfort zone is after Nate starts yanking him for Blake now that Blake is back. :devilwink:

So nothing has really changed at all.

Old Man Miller still refuses to do what he's been paid $21,000,000.00 to do. Pretty clear he has NO future as a coach.

Other than the fact that he and Roy are playing well together now that they've had time to build some chemistry.

That's hugely debateable, and not really the point anyway.

It's a 5 man team out there, and it's not winning as often as it's losing.

:sigh:
