Here is a short article from the NY Times, June 19, 1976 on Commissioner Bowie Kuhn's vain attempts to stop the steam roller of High $$$ Free Agent Contracts, and or Owner's moving players, all a fall out of the infancy of Free Agency.

Kuhn (an ex-Wall Street Lawyer)- stated upon hearing of O'Finley's sales of Vida Blue, Joe Rudi, and Rollie Fingers: The deals He rule: "broke no rules of procedure, as such, but were inconsistent with the best interests of the game, and maintenance of public confidence in it", .......say what....?

This article long forgotten by many, shows the mentality of a crazy bygone era, that has more than shaped/molded the over priced contracts seen today...
