I thought the team he was on (POR) made a "qualifying offer" and the team trying to sign him (Minny) "extended an offer sheet". I know its semantics but wording in this stuff is important - a typo by the NBA site?

Or, just someone not knowing what was going on. :dunno:

I thought the amnesty only applied to contracts under the last CBA? So I don't think you can't use that. You have plenty of other material/facts to work with though :)

For a player to be eligible for the Amnesty provision he must be on his team's roster continuously from July 1, 2011 to the date he is amnestied, without any new contract, extension, renegotiation or other amendment to his contract in the meantime. Players who were waived prior to July 1, 2011 and are still receiving guaranteed salary are also eligible. Teams cannot amnesty players they sign, receive in trade, extend, renegotiate, or otherwise amend after July 1, 2011.

So I'm right, thanks for clearing that up

Pending passed physical, Bulls have traded Kyle Korver to Atlanta. Could be sign-and-trade w/Hinrich. Details soon at

What was the benefit for Minny with the Korver trade?

"The Korver trade is via Minnesota into Atlanta's traded player exception, meaning Bulls get 2nd-round pick from Minny and save $500K."

Somehow it was supposed to cut salary? Or maybe just thought we would take Korver with their package for Batum?

If they fit Korver into the space created from amnestying Darko, and then moved him to Atlanta, they would generate a 5 mill. TPE. I just can't figure out why they'd need it, since they have that 5 million in cap space.

Hmm, yeah, that doesn't really help themout, though. Was thinking of a way for them to retain that and the full mle, but they'd need to renounce the MLE to have the cap space to get Korver to get the TPE, which seems pointless. hmmmm

Yeah I think it would help them if they stayed over the cap, then they would have TPE, full $5Mil MLE, and BAE exception. But they wouldn't have any cap space, only exceptions.

In order to initially trade for Korver, however, they would need to renounce their exceptions to have the cap space to trade for him.

Would it help at all with signing Roy or is the TPE the property of the Bulls? So confused.

no, they can't sign a free agent with a TPE. They can S&T for one, but not possible with Roy.

Minnesota has waived forward Martell Webster, league source tells Y! Sports.

it begins

How could they waive Darko?

Remember, Kahn said Darko was a better passing big-man than a prime Sabonis, and at least on par with "Divac"
