Interesting.

http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local...speaks_out_against_mosque_near_ground_ze.html

The first Muslim crowned Miss USA spoke out against the planned mosque near Ground Zero yesterday, saying the project is insensitive to 9/11 victims.

"We should be more concerned with the tragedy than religion," said Miss USA Rima Fakih, who was born in Lebanon but raised in Dearborn, Michigan.

"I totally agree with President Obama with the statement on Constitutional rights of freedom of religion," Fakih told "Inside Edition."

"I also agree that it shouldn't be so close to the World Trade Center."

A planned 13-story community center and mosque two blocks north of Ground Zero, Park51 mushroomed into a national controversy last week after President Obama spoke in favor of the project at a White House dinner celebrating Ramadan.

Fakih, 24, is in Las Vegas rehearsing for Monday's Miss Universe pageant, officials said yesterday.

She told the Detroit Free Press on Tuesday she's fasting from sunrise to sunset for Ramadan.

The former Miss Michigan became the first Muslim to be crowned Miss USA in May. She dazzled judges when she took the stage in a skimpy red and orange bikini.

She would also be the first Muslim to be crowned Miss Universe.............

I must admit it has been interesting to note the differences of opinions on that project and where they come from.

100-1 odds she says that only to seem american. This is not at Ground Zero and last I checked Americans have freedom of religion.

I think it's sort of in bad taste and is bad form for the people planning to put the mosque there, but I don't object to them being allowed to put it there.

Here's a better question though?
Let's say it goes in, what's the over-under on weeks before somebody throws a Molotov Cocktail through a window?

This is just absolutely ridiculous. There is no legitimate reason a mosque (community center) should not be at ground zero (2 blocks away). Anyone who says otherwise must be intolerant or ignorant.

The bigger problem is that she isn't hot enough to be Miss USA.

There must be some serious shit going on now if people are still worried about this.

Let's see a picture and THEN I'll decide whether she's right.

I agree with this, but agree 100% with what Nik said. I have said that all along. Let me ask you this. Is there a legitimate reason it can't be further away? Again, it's not the fault of the people who oppose this that people claiming the Muslim faith were responsible for killing 2,976 innocent men, women and children. It's two blocks away....150 steps according to a friend of mine who lives there....I think it's too close, too soon.

Yeah, there's a reason why it can't be further away. because they bought the property and own it and should be able to build it there...because you know, they're free? and live in the US? and are Americans?

If the owners of the land are given land of equal worth for the price they paid and they accept it then that would be fine. I don't think that is going to happen.

The place would be tagged to hell, and eventually burned down.

The US bombed a lot more than 2976 civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. Did the US set up its bases far enough away from those villages, now craters?
