What player out there is the perfect complementary player that would turn our team into one that could compete with the Clippers/Lakers out there? Notice that I'm saying "complementary" - so someone like LeBron or Kawhi doesn't count, because they're building block players. Plus you get bonus points if they're actually gettable. So, ideally,
a) name the player
b) suggest a reasonable trade (and explain why the other team would do it)
c) explain why that player complements the players we have so well.

(Basically I'm asking for the Buck Williams of now.)

I think someone like Robert Covington would help a ton. Having a guy who can play the 3 and small ball 4 and hit 3 pointers would do wonders. Not sure how to trade for him, but I'm sure Minnesota would love to add some more former Blazers to their squad. He's coming off of an injury, so it's a bit risky, but it might lower the price as well.

Otto Porter would be another great fit, but his contract is definitely a bummer.

Been saying Whiteside + pick for Porter since basically when we acquired Hassan. We need a long rangy wing who can swing to 4, who defends well and can hit the three. I don't care that he would cost 20 mil to retain next summer. If he is the missing piece, you do it.

Gordon Hayward is another interesting one. HW for GH works money wise and both on the last year of their deals.
If Nurkic comes back from his injury by the trade deadline, that is very interesting.

Really? Seems like Hayward just signed.
Something's gotta give in Boston. I'd be interested in Brown if things get ugly over his extension - he's certainly a solid defender at 3/4.

getting another role player to add to the large collection of Blazer role players isn't going to make Portland a true contender

What would complement Dame is a player as talented as Dame, or really close to Dame's talent. A younger durable Blake Griffin. PG13. Players of that caliber.

sure, somebody like Porter or Gallo would be better than Hood or Bazemore, but it isn't going to put Portland on the same level as the elite teams. IMO of course

Blake Griffin
I think we could get Blake for Whiteside's expiring contract and a first rounder. If Jusuf is playing well by the trade deadline I could see this happening. Whiteside would either be bought out or flipped for another player. This also depends on where the Pistons find themselves in the Eastern Conference standings.

Shit, good call. Hayward actually has a PO for 34 mil next season.

Collins for Brown is another one of my fav ideas

Gordon Hayward is great but I don't think he's gettable. I wish with all my might that he was gettable but I just don't see it.

Griffin and Porter are the most realistic.

Griffin's playmaking ability at the 4 would make it near impossible to guard this team in the playoffs because doubling Dame would lead to easy buckets.

Porter is a career 40% 3 point shooter who is money from the corners. It would help our spacing plus he is a capable wing defender for when we go up against teams like the Clippers.

Why does Detroit trade Griffin? I live in Michigan and he's about all Pistons fans have to cheer for. Plus Detroit is loading up with vets like Rose and Iso Joe, so it's not like they're blowing it up to rebuild.

If they are once again on the outside of the playoff window or fighting for the 8th seed there is likely going to be a point in the next season and a half where they realize they need to get out of his contract.

Meyers Leonard, but obviously we've got nobody Miami wants.
