MIST = Muslim InterScholastic Tournament
MSA = Muslim Student Association - its an after school club, we prepare for MIST ... and enjoy ourselves as a group and do activities together

This tournament goes down 2 times every year. Once is regional (all schools with MSA's in Houston) and once National (many cities come together to compete, they recently added the Nationals so last year it was at Houston since MIST was started in Houston.)

BUT LAST YEAR, THEY ADDED BASKETBALL DURING NATIONALS
My school made up our team (about 9 guys) that were in our MSA (Muslim Student Association) and we defeated #3 team from Atlanta. Then we defeated #1 team from Atlanta. Then we played against #1 team from Houston in the finals. We were tied at halftime, but we lost the game and ended up finishing 2nd. We were mad. We couldn't wait til this year.

So, 2moro is our tournament. We don't have as good players as we did last time, but our teamwork is twice as better. We've been practicing a little bit too. We got an 8-man roster. I'm runnin starting point

.. been working on passing skills lately.

Tournament is this weekend - but the actual <font color=""Red"">MIST competitions listed above</font> is next weekend. I'm participating in Photography. Last year EVERYBODY thought I would get 1st, but I didn't even get 5th ...

- but I'm really lookin forward to this tournament.

Last year, I would have .. but this year we decided we're going to play fundamental and do nothing fancy unless we're up by 20. But you know.. if somebody trying to play D all up on me... i will pull a crossover.


BTW - All this goes down at University of Houston.

High school student who attends MSA. And we had to pay around $40 to register for the whole thing. BBALL + MIST.

Our BBALL team has only one senior, but its all good

Reading this though is depressing. My school season just ended like 2 weeks ago. We ended up finishing 2nd but with the best record in the city. We won 5 tournaments, we were ranked #1 in the City for playoffs. But once City Finals came, I think we got a little cocky. We led the other team by 7 at half then we got lazy and lost.

Sorry I went a bit off topic, but yeah, cross some one over for us! With an 8 man roster what happens if someone gets injured or doesn't make a game, then you're stuck with like 2 bench players. If you get into foul trouble, you could get screwed. But hopefully you guys do well.

We lost, we full court sideways on a 6 goal gym. We didn't have enough spacing and we had 2 big men (and one of them had a messed up ankle). So ... so much for me driving in. Everybody played ok, not to good...myself included. We were down 3 and with like 5 secs to go and my friend inbounded the ball to Umair, who hit a long shot to beat the time. That was cool ..

And my other friend was recording the game, he managed to get me on video when I crossed this guy.

2nd thing ... they didn't do rankings correctly. We were 2nd from last year, this other team was 1st. They made us play the team that was 1st right away .. which we lost.

One my friend puts it on the computer and cuts it into bits and pieces, its like 30 mins long. Plus a fight almost happened, me and this other guy were tangled up with the ball ... and the team we played 1st plays dirty. That guy against me was being dirty, so my friend jumped in and played rough with him.

And before you knew.. fight ALMOST.

I was on my school's team as well, but couldn't go because I had an Academic/Debate tournament to go to. . That would've been kindof cool, though, especially since I was starting and may have played against you guys.

We had planned on doin fancy sh*t if we were up by 20, but we never were. I had some AND1 moves in my bag, the newest one I picked up is flicking the ball above the defenders head like you're about to pass it hard but flicking it straight up ... they look back and the ball comes to you. I've gotten some people with it.

My friend does that at our basketball practice all the time and it's the most annoying thing in the world because it works and it usually gets everyone. He sells it real well and I pretty much hate it. I remember last year me and my neighbor signed up for a rec league in our neighborhood and it was basically a streetball league. The games were played outside and the refs were extremely leniant. We would just crossover and do all these moves. We were on a fast break once and I bounced the ball off the ground and it hit the backboard and my friend caught it off the backboard and alley ooped it. It looked pretty cool but it would have been even sicker if he could dunk haha.

I tried to pass to the big man, but the guy behind me hit the ball ... and the big guy was slow to getting the ball. But ref gave them the ball.
