While, to this point, I had never really taken the time to listed to what Mr. Romney has had to say, I've gotta admit, he appeared rather impressive handling all of O'Reilly's firing-line questions this evening....everything from "Romney Care", to international policy - particularly how it relates to Iran.

Good stuff. I'll be listening to him a little closer as time rolls on.

He seems like a smart guy. More worthwhile to listen to than most of the other candidates, but sadly much less entertaining.

I'm not really up on the subject, but Romney was particularly critical of Obama's (non) handling of the Russia/Poland missile situation. Apparently, if President, Romney would have really been in Putin's face. In fact, he dared to say that the correct handling of that would have placed the US in a much better position to handle the potentially volatile/dangerous/critical Iranian (nuclear) situation.

even if a Republican candidate thinks they would have handled the situation the same exact way as President Obama they're going to say they'd have handled it differently or risk alienating the base. Romney is a very stiff/cookie cutter politician, but he's bright and looks the part. If he weren't Mormon, he'd be a shoe in for the R's

I think many will not vote for a Mormon. I can't see the Tea Party accepting him. And if they run a third party candidate against him, Obama wins by default.

I don't know of any cults with 14 million members worldwide (more outside the U.S. than inside). Cults are usually small in number as to be able to hide their extremism or as a consequence of it. I don't see too many cults promoting themselves the way Mormons do.

Under those definitions, what religious organization wouldn't? That's fine if you want to classify all religion as a cult, but I'm confused why Mormons get singled out. Over 14 million members for a religion that's only existed for 181 years doesn't sound like it'll be a "small" group for very long. The United Methodist Church has 12 million members. Southern Baptists have 16+ million.

If nominated I wonder if his religion will become a political issue. I would think not overtly, but in some way Obama's people would probably have to try and use it to divide the religious right. It'll be interesting to see how they do that.

I try to make a point not to talk politics nor religion with my customers, but I couldn't help but wink and say to the gentleman, "So, Mitt's your guy, eh?" He responded, "Uhhm, no.", while returning the smiled, then went on as if to say that Romney has essentially forsaken their religion in favor of his political pursuits.

I thought it was kind of interesting, at least.

That's fairly accurate. You guys have much more basketball knowledge/passion than I do. I like my Blazers but don't have a ton to add to what you guys already say. I read a lot of what's on here, just don't post. I figure I can post on something I know about. I have no problem with people's opinions, I just see a lot of inaccurate statements or misrepresentations when it comes to Mormons. That's not intended to be solely directed at you, Mick. Anyway, back to more of the point of the thread, I think Mitt is pretty polished when it comes to speaking. He may have some views that Rep's don't care for, just like Huntsman, but he looks like a presidential candidate and speaks like one. I wouldn't be surprised if if he got the nomination. For the record, I'm not saying I think he's a great candidate, just that he's probably the best the Rep's have for this election.

I think that outcome is EXTREMELY unlikely. Huntsman is probably the last guy Romney would pick (unless he was absolutely guaranteed to win no matter what).
