Re: Mo signs with Mavs

Mavs got Tyson Chandler back, re-signed Dirk, I'm guessing Mo was as close as a Jason Terry at 31 that they could get. Mo has deep connections to that community as well so I wish him a good year against the eastern conference but warning, we're going to kick his ass in the west

Re: Mo signs with Mavs

so, is there any confirmation on this actually?

Re: Mo signs with Mavs

At least now Mo will get to hear Kaleb Canales' "hardhat" speech!

Re: Mo signs with Mavs

If legit, this is great news- it means more court time for Barton and McCollum.

Perhaps the blazers don't even want to spend their bae on mo because CJ has made the jump and they need to give him more time with the ball in his hands. He will always be a pg imo, too great of a distributed not to be.

Could you imagine if CJ was able to rise to a 6th man of the year candidate quality player. We would be able to upgrade the bench extremely deep next offseason.

If everyone could make at least one step forward this next year, the bench would be vastly improved.

Yeah I think possibly letting Mo walk but frantically overpaying to sign Kaman is an indication of what the organization thinks of both CJ and Meyers chances of contributing next season.

Perhaps. CJ definitely has a good crossover, and disregarding rookie nerves/mistakes, his handle also seemed quite good at times. Combine that with his herky-jerky ability to get by defenders - and he's just got to put it all together it seems.

I sort of agree. Of course we've only seen momentary flashes from those two and I'm not really sure either is enough of a point guard to hold down the spot if Lillard ever misses any time, but Mo was basically a replacement level player last year, so it's no great loss in my mind.

I think the Blazers will still have to find a real PG on the market; relying on McCollum and/or Barton to be it might be a tall order for a team with aspirations of reaching the WCF and beyond.

Don't blame me. I posted the sources I got that from.

Andrew Bynum will make a great addition, I hope all local bowling alleys have that.

Looks like mo will be back in Portland. Dallas is trying to sign mo for the vets minimum.

Re: Mo signs with Mavs

@espn_macmahon

Mavs hope they can talk Mo Williams into taking minimum. Why would he do that? Lives in area and wants to be near wife and five sons.

In general, the Mavs seem to follow the Spurs' model of sensible small signings and it seems to work for them. But with this big offer to Chandler Parsons, it kind of looks like an insult to the vets they're signing. Parsons gets more? than Dirk (who, out of loyalty to the Mavs, turns down a standing max offer from the Rockets(!)) and then they want to sign Carter for under $3M and now Mo for the minimum?

Makes sense. Dirk and Carter have been paid handsomely in this league already. Mo came to them.

Man... how would that work?

As a non-Bird Rights free agent, the Blazers can re-sign Williams to a $3.15M contract even though they're capped out. So it's just a question of whether he can find a deal larger than that elsewhere. Obviously, the veteran's minimum is unlikely to tempt him away.

I thought he meant "how would the rotation work out", the answer to which I have no idea.

Mo had a choice, beat out Dame for a starting job or Raymond Felton. He made the right choice

Oh, I see. It would give them some lineup versatility. You can pretty much pair Williams up with any other guard, though pairing him with Matthews would be the sketchiest. It would be a lot of guards, though. But the Blazers need as much talent as they can get, so I'm not sure they can turn a decent player like Williams, on a one year commitment, away just for that reason.

Yeah, sorry Wizard is right. I was talking about the rotation. I don't see how we would accommodate so many guards.

I don't think we should sign Williams at any price unless we have some sort of significant trade worked out.
