Tuesday my mother had her femur fractured in her right leg. She went to a appointment and took Trimet lift and when the driver was pushing her coming back home, her right foot fell off the foot rest and went under the wheelchair. The guy kept pushing and her leg snapped. Shattered as the doc said, right above the knee. What makes me really mad is that the guy kept pushing even after my mom scream in pain. My wife had to yell at him to stop before he finally did.

Obviously I'm not happy with that idiot driver. My wife was pushing my mom and the guy insisted on pushing her himself saying my wife was pushing her to slow. Man, I wish I could get my hands on him for just a min! I'm not normally a violent person, but just thinking of my mom going through that makes me want to give some pain to him to say the least.

That's terrible to hear. My dad had a similar situation. He was rehabbing from a hip replacement (playing football in college and rugby afterwards did a toll on his body) and was on trimet coming back from his first post surgery check up. He was stepping off the bus when he lost his balance and fell off, breaking his femur, which was weakened due to not doing much since the surgery. I know he spoke to people at trimet and they reviewed (or at least claimed to review) the security tape on the bus. If you think the driver was at fault you may want to look into that.

I hope she has a full and speedy recovery!

Sue the hell out of TriMet!

As a full-time rider of Tri-Met, I am TOTALLY FINE with you suing them for millions, and will gladly accept the $100/month increase in my monthly pass that results.

As tax payers who help fund trimet they better not raise the rates cause of bad hirings and them getting sued because of it.

To the lawyers on the board: Go ahead. PM him. Everyone's on your side. No one will criticize you.

Sue the bus system. This is a sympathetic family who needs the money, bad.

Exactly. I'd take this pro bono if I was actually a lawyer and not just a professional arguer.

I KNEW it. Denny pays everyone except me.

While it was TriMet Lift they sent a Broadway cab. So we will be suing both of them.

Because of my mom's age, 88, they/we have decided it's best not to do surgery. She can't walk anyway and it will heal. Both the doctor, my sis(Marcia), Karla, and myself are worried she wouldn't make it through the surgery.

One bit of good news is that she will probably be coming to the same place I am at. We were pushing for that because this is the best place I've been at and then I could visit her a lot and it means less traveling for Karla.

Thank you for all the replies!

Man, I am so sorry for your mother, to even read this pisses me off. I hope you own the damn thing, and the rename it to honor your mother when you are done with those scumbags

My prayers are with you and your family, mgb. If there's anything you need, please post it to the board so we can help you out.

Suggest to the lawyer to collect witnesses, by his assistant riding the same route at the same time of day, and asking riders, did you see it.

That kind of pisses me off the more I think about it. Some bus driver being so pushy with an elderly woman. Their job is to serve the riders and not this.

First of all, I'm very sorry to hear about your mother, MGB. It sounds like an extremely painful thing that just didn't have to happen. I hope that she is feel OK and that she recovers fully soon.

How can they NOT raise the rates? If they get sued enough, they presumably either have to raise the rates or close up shop or get money from investors or the government. If the company is sued to the point of needing more investors, I can't imagine they'd be able to get reasonable terms.

Should the government pay for these suits, or should riders? You can't get money out of thin air unless you're the federal government (or some banks :) ).

While we may sue both, Broadway cab is the main company at fault. Also both companies have insurance for things like this so it's not like it's coming directly from their pockets though it might raise the insurance costs.

My mom is still in a lot of pain. I hate having to hear her in so much pain. She also got a Urinary tract infection which causes her to get confuse and to see people or believe she is at a different place then she is. When I talk to her she thought she was out shopping and having dinner with friends. I tried to explain to her where she was and she didn't believe me. I told her that she knew I wouldn't lie to her and she said normally you don't. At least she sound like she was having fun.

I'm hoping she will be moved to where I am at later today. She might be put in the room next to mine which would be nice. I haven't seen her since before Jan so it'll be nice to be able to visit her.

Btw, a member from here is taking the case for us. I did some research on the percentage lawyers take are on personal injury and he gave us a deal below the average I found online.

sorry to hear that bro, hope everything turns out well

My mom is being moved from the hospital to the same place I'm at, matter of fact the room right next to me, tomorrow. It'll be the first time I've seen her since before Jan.

How old is your mom? I hope she has no preexisting medical problem that makes this worse.

She is 88 soon to be 89, Oct 16, and legally blind. She takes coumalin, not sure of the spelling, for irregular heart beat, but other than that she is in good condition. She was at a appt for checking her levels because sometimes they will change the dosage and when she left is when this happen.

Or, PERS benefits could be reduced, and the driver could be fired for negligence.

Nah, better just raise rates!

Jeezus Cristobol, how much worse can it get than a shattered leg for an elderly lady who takes Tri-Met for transportation?

Wow. You need help, man.

Or, she should just take a pill, given her age.

2 months younger than JLPRK. I was watering her birthday flowers just 4 hours ago. I heard a voice warning me of an ogre.

Your side could win and decimate Medicare. It could get a lot worse. She could be totally paralyzed in her last years from Parkinson's Disease.

Wow. You need help, man.

You're right. You got 10 bucks on you, man?

Please, guys, lets not turn this thread into a flame war or political debate.

It was so great seeing my mom for the first time in months today, but so hard to see her in such pain. It just makes me sad.

Having diabetes can make bones healing more difficult.

Why can't they stop the pain, mgb? I sure am getting reminders of my own mother here.
