More Important: PG or SF

We are all seeing a lot of trade ideas on here, and I was wondering what most people think we need more: A PG or a SF

According to most rumors KP is working hard to make a splash with a trade, but who knows, he might be doing that all the time just so he knows what his players are worth and what other GM's want for their respective players.

While I would love to have Gerald Wallace, I just don't think SF is the position we really need to improve, especially when Martell gets back. We will have Batum, Webster, and Outlaw and that gives us some pretty sick talent at that position.

PG on the other hand is not looking so good. I like Blake, he is pretty consistent at what he does (some are thinking, 'he's consistent in what he doesn't do), and can shoot the 3 pretty well. I like Sergio a lot but his defense is non-existent and he doesn't have a shot, but his court vision and style of play make him worth keeping. Then there is Bayless, who I hope to see on the court sometime this year cause he WILL be better than both options we have at PG at some point.

After everyone has voted and we have an idea of what position most people think we need to upgrade, I would like to start a poll to see which player out there best fits what we need.

I say point guard, but if Gerald Wallace was the "get" in a trade then I'd be pretty damn ecstatic ... and I think the team could get by with what it has for the remainder of the year (with primarily a 3 guard rotation of Blake, Roy and Rudy).

But all things being equal (equal availability, equal assets to give up, etc.) if I had to pick between a small forward of Wallace's caliber and point guard of equal caliber (whomever that might be) then point guard is the way to go.

Point guard is a bit more of a need. But I'd rather get the best player available, while the Raef LaFrentz window is open, and then work to address the biggest need with later trades. I mean, if the best small forward Portland can acquire is Gerald Wallace and the best point guard Portland can acquire is Kirk Hinrich, for example, I'd much rather get Wallace. And then use whatever swingman excess we have to get a point guard in a later deal.

PG, I think MW is going to be a very good player anda great fit with our starters. But of course it has to due with what caliber of SF or PG we are talking about in getting with a trade. The PG's I truly want we will not be getting. DW or CP or Rose.

Minstreal and Nik I agree that getting Wallace would make me extremely happy, I think that in the long ran I would be disappointed we didn't wait to the trade deadline to make a move for a PG. But you are both right, what is out there and is available at the PG spot makes the Wallace trade look really good. Then again, we don't know who can be bought, and KP has a better idea then we do for sure. Like the Iverson-Billups trade, I didn't see that coming, so maybe there is something or someone KP is working on, and we all will be shocked.

I should have made the poll public. Seems pretty clear as to what position The Blazers need an upgrade at the most.

I think KP will get the best deal for the team for the best player possible at either positon. Who knows we may get a New PG and new SF

Fair Enough. But when Webster gets back healthy and Outlaw moves to back up PF (with Batum/Webster playing SF) that problem is mostly solved.

Teams don't trade really good, or really potential-laden point guards. The talented point guards who would fit the window of this core (Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Tony Parker, Derrick Rose, Devin Harris) will not approach being made available. So, if you want a point guard in trade, Kirk Hinrich is what you can get.

Personally, I'd prefer to get the better player in Gerald Wallace (if he is available for a price Portland can pay) and spend some time seeing whether Fernandez or Bayless can be the long-term solution in the backcourt alongside Roy.

On another note, I sure hope the Travis Outlaw for Conley rumors aren't true. I used to be a big Conley guy, but he just isn't anything special at this point, and definitely not worth giving up Outlaw.

Let Bayless develop. Better yet, put him in there more.

I'd like to use this thread to point out that Devin Harris only averages 4.8 apg while averaging 2 tpg and is shooting on 39% from the field. Will people now please admit that Outlaw for Harris swap would've been a disaster?

You're not taking into account Harris' defense. He'd be nice to have on CP3/Deron.

Outlaw is a nice player, but I'd probably trade him for Harris. You want someone to get in the lane and get to the bucket? Harris is your man.

The Blazers have a surplus at SF, and players like Travis aren't hard to find. Finding a PG is.

Of course we still need to see Bayless play. Put him in dammit.

Devin Harris is a significantly better player than Outlaw, a few games notwithstanding. He's pretty similar in terms of production, can fill a more important role and plays much, much better defense.
