The choice is yours as this is a sport for your entertainment...
river answered as a fan of just having a team. He is fine with a team in the NBA to entertain him. In my view the franchise should be managed to achieve excellence in the art of basketball. Winning a championship with excellence of play is ultimate in achievement in this game. Then there is winning a championship with stacking the talent and hope the talent is overwhelming. It often is not, and not a great achievement even if you win the big one.
Portland does neither. They field a team in the NBA, fairly competitive, but predictable not, when facing a knowledgeable well coached team in the playoffs. Portland is the example this folly too many years.
The last time Portland won a championship, 42 years ago, you knew they had a chance, you knew they had a coach that could do it, so did the team. Same with the teams with a couple runs at it 30 years ago. Twenty years ago, the team was there, the coach was not, and they failed in spectacular fashion.
The last few years of playoff, were pretty damn spectacular failures also, because the game is missing do to lack of a coach with the game.
Winning franchises almost always have owners with a passionate desire to win. Paying the bills seams to be the drive in Portland. The fans determine whether mediocrity pays.
