Total agree, the movement is going to be key. The isos plays will work every now and then, but if the offense falls into relying on that, it's not going to be successful for very long at all.</p>

The defense has to guard 5 guys, in ISO Fest, the defense gets a break and only has to guard 1 or 2 guys. You're making things easier on the defense by Isolating someone.</p>

If you don't mind me asking, furnace, what is the BEST way to make use of Kidd's passing skills? ...The old Princeton/Motion offense?</p>

When you have motion on offense, of course it's going to be good. You just can't have Vince iso on every play, not only do teams adjust to it quickly, but there is absolutely no movement.</p>

The player who you're isolating is with the ball, usually at the top of the key, face to his defenderand the rest of the players give him space to drive to the paint or fake and hit the jumper by stepping back to around 18-22 feet from the basket, thus bringing their defenders with them. If the defense decides to stay in the paint, they get hit with a three from one of the players whoisn't isolated. That's an isolation.</p>

Anyway, motion offenses seem to work for us, so I'm happy that we're back to them.</p>

Motion offenses allow for movement which puts defenders on their heels. In an isolation it hurts the other 4 players because they don't know what's coming, if you over use it, the players won't be prepared, sort of like a slow working pitcher, you fall asleep.
The problem with our ISO, we don't put 4 other guys on the floor that can spread the floor. I mean you put Collins at the elbow all day, but his defender will max out his defensive distance to pack it around the basket. Kidd is hit or miss, RJ, same thing from that distance too. It's a matter of using an offense to your strenghts. I think VC ISO is nice on occasion, not all the time as it had been every game out in the 4th quarter last season. ISO is nice if you have a guy that can hit the open jumper 90% of the time, ala a Peja. That's the Nets problem, they're isolating their best 3 point threat in VC.</p>

I know, I don't like their ISO plays either. We don't have a team that's fit for one. As I said, I prefer the motion offense that seems to work for us and fits our team too. An ISO for RJ would be nice, with VC at the 45, Krstic outside, Kidd on the wing and Nachbar in the corner. That's a lineup that fits. You can evenswitch one of the guards with Wright and it would work. RJ is a decent three point shooter as well, so isolating VC with that lineup would work too. Problem is we don't use that lineup enough, since Collins or Magloire are on the court most of the time.</p>
