Most Underrated Blazer Of All Time

I take it you're joking but I was going to say him in all seriousness. He has gone on to prove his worth for CSKA Moscow, which was, when he was at his peak, one of the top 3 teams outside the NBA.

Plus he got us Aldridge, which I know counts for a lot less now, but still.

(Was Khryapa good? Not very. But a lot better than the joke most people think of him as.)

He was my favorite player of the post-Bonzi, pre-Roy era. I loved his Poor Man's Detlef Schrempf game. Plus he got us the LMA draft pick that set our path to Nurkic, CJ, and Dame.

Buck Williams? Hard to be underrated when you're the #1 pick in the draft and an all-star, but that was as a Net, and, like Bosh with the Heat, he was prepared to sublimate his stats for the good of the whole and turned a good team into a great one.
Huh - I just saw on ESPN how Brook Lopez has just become the top scoring Net of all time - replacing... Buck Williams!

I'm going to toss one out there that will probably get shit all over: Danny Ainge.

Like most, I absolutely detested Ainge before he came here, and after he left, but he was a huge part of that 63-win team in 1990-91 and without his heroics in the finals in 1992, we probably would have been swept by the Bulls in 4 games.

With Drexler, Porter and Ainge, we probably had the best guard rotation in the league for those two years. With Ainge and Cliff Robinson coming off the bench, we had SEVEN players that averaged over 11 ppg in 1990-91. Not even the stacked, two-to-three deep at every position 1999-2000 team could match that kind of quality depth. They had five starters average in double figures, but no one coming off the bench averaged more than 9 ppg. The only other Blazers team with seven players who averaged in double figures was the 1977-78 team that started the season 50-10 before Walton went down.

Sure, as a Celtic and Sun, fuck that whiny little bitch with a face you'd love to punch, but as a Blazer Danny Ainge is underrated and underappreciated.

I just want to throw out that Rod Strickland was a giant tool. Huge asshole. I was glad we got rid of him.

I met Rod on two separate occasions and he was a jerk both times.

The first time, my middle school won some contest to have a Blazer come visit and that Blazer was Rod. He acted like a dick the whole time. He pouted and acted like he didn't want to be there. This was 23 years ago and I still remember it clearly.

The second time was at a basketball day camp at Lewis and Clark, and he wasn't the only player there, but again he acted like a diva the whole time. Total douche. I hated that guy. Huge ego, total diva, and really not that good.
Still liked him.

Who just happens to be my favorite Blazer of all time.

I agree with you on Bobby Gross being under rated, and often overlooked. His performance in that championship game was MVP as far as I'm concerned.

I happen to have Gross' game-worn jersey from game 6 - the game that Portland won a title!!

Buck was the 3rd pick in the draft, not 1st. Also, I think you could argue that he was underrated and overrated at the same time.

I knocked at his house when we did our food drive in High School. He was pretty nice and gave us some canned goods. So your stories are now invalid.

I'd go with Rod Strickland, Andre Miller, Jermaine O'neal and a personal fav...Drazen Petrovic

He was an alcoholic....struggled all his life with it..ended up coaching in Russia...but on the court he was one of the most talented pt guards I've ever seen..him and Sabonis were made to play together

Drazen underrated? By whom? I mean, other than the coach, I thought pretty much everyone thought he should play more. I sure did.

Plus Rod Strickland's a wu tang lyric (not like u crackaz will know what that is doe)

Just like Jermaine....allstar getting Nurkic in Denver minutes....underrated by the coach and the organization apparently. I'm working the Portland slant here..Sheed is a good example...so is O'neal....

I agree Strick was a jerk off the court but fab on it.

Agree on Ainge comments.

But what about Batum-shakalaka!

But what about Batum-shakalaka!

I think Batum was overrated early (when many, myself included, thought he had Pippen potential) and underrated late, when many (myself not included) decided he was a bum because he wasn't consistently excellent.
