A motorboat carrying 173 passengers and 16 crew members capsized 200 meters from the port in Ormoc, Leyte on Thursday (July 2).
The vessel, MB Nirvana, was bound for Pilar town on Camotes Island, east of Cebu.
As of this posting, the Ormoc City Police said there were 38 confirmed dead, 17 still missing and 134 survivors.
According to Ormoc City Councilor Godi Abcas, chairman of the Committee on Public Safety, the boat capsized at around 12 p.m., 20 minutes after leaving the port.
