@Hobbesarable! I'm sorry! I promise this is the last one!
In roughly 2003, Mel Gibson said, and I quote: "“I mean when the war was over they said it was 12 million. Then it was six. Now it’s four. I mean it’s that kind of numbers game.” Here, he is talking about the Holocaust. And like his father, he seems to be a fucking a Holocaust denier! That, to me, is enough to be disregarded for eternity.
In 2006, as you mentioned he said the whole: “Fucking Jews. The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” And there is A LOT more from that "low point."But you know, he was just going through some of the alcoholism. Afterwards, he apologized right? I mean step 8 and 9, right? Sure, he says he is sorry to have disgraced himself and his family. Also: “I was loaded and angry and arrested. I was recorded illegally by an unscrupulous police officer who was never prosecuted for that crime. And then it was made public by him for profit, and by members of — we’ll call it the press. So, not fair. I guess as who I am, I’m not allowed to have a nervous breakdown, ever.” Dude is sorry. Clearly.
The Passion of the Christ is super anti-semitic, but I mean he was probably just drunk during post-production.
Less than 10 years again he was recorded saying all that weird shit to his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva in which he says that if she got "raped by a pack of [he uses the n-word here] it will be your fault." Just think about all the fights you've had in your life. Have you ever said anything like that? What kind of person says something like that? Answer: a bad person. He paid Oksana for domestic abuse--of which he said, "You know what? You fucking deserve it"--and then we she talked about how she was going to work with a domestic violence charity and said this: "You have to embrace your experience and even — it doesn't matter how painful it might be at the time, and that darker experience, learn from it." After that he took her to court because she had violated a confidentiality clause and therefore could without funds...and I'm just glossing over this stuff.
He called Winona Ryder an "oven dodger." He's used bigoted terms for women, gays, african americans, latinos, and obviously jews. He admittedly hit his girlfriend while she held his child. I don't know, man, it just feels like there are better hills to die on.
(I was using Michael Jackson and Kevin Spacey because there are not a ton of examples of successful Hollywood bigots that I can think of and they have recently been essentially blacklisted. I'm not here to compare crimes against humanity as much as I'm here to point them out. Donald fucking Sterling was forced to sell the Clippers for saying a fraction of what Mel Gibson has. You can like his movies and whatever--there is a legitimate debate to be had about how do we approach an artist's art after we find out that they are pieces of shit--but to defend him?!? And the redemption story? Sounds cultish.)
