Just saw Dr. Strange. It was okay. Not as good as I expected though.
 
Have any of you watched the Netflix Docuseries, "I Just Killed My Dad."

Wow. It was really well done and a tear jerker.

Wife and I watched that like a year ago because I saw the trailer randomly. It was really really good.
 
Finally saw Best Years of Our Lives. I know it's been around forever. Started watching some years ago but it was late and couldn't stay awake. I liked that it wasn't just rah rah, real impact of war on veterans, including those who were seemingly OK, and on their families.

Also watched Anthropoid. About assassination of Reinhard Heydrich. We can debate the tactic. He was replaced with another murderer and 5000 Czechs killed in revenge. But I still call those who killed him heroes.
Do me a favor and don't say vaccines and masks just like Nazis.
 
Took the wife to Alamo Drafthouse for a special 50th anniversary screening of The Godfather. That masterpiece never gets old! She had never seen it, so debate was watch at home where we can pause and I can explain things but the phone is a distraction, or on the big screen where phone stays away and she loves the margaritas but tougher to explain things. Overall she really enjoyed it, gave it 8/10 and only cost us $75 after tickets, drinks, popcorn and loaded fries. She even said she wants to go back this Sunday for Part 2!
 
Labor Day (2013) starring Josh Brolin. One of the best love stories you'll ever see.

Chernobyl. Although it is dark and grim, it is performed with a good sense of feelings it is to evoke. It has also provided me with the help writing a lab report of my own.

Went back and watched the OG Halloween and then the new trilogy. The 1st one remains a classic and works so well even on rewatches. Really liked the 2018 one and was surprised rewatching Kills how much I liked it, but Ends was a let down. No spoilers but man it took a long time to get going!

I saw that what I copied was Confess, Fletch so I decided to watch it since the title was different than just Fletch.
I looked it up and the average rating was 6.5 out of a possible 10. Based on that rating I would give it a 6. I've seen worse and I've seen an awful lot that were better. It barely kept me interested.
 
Just watched The Railway Man - Very thought provoking and based on a true story. The ending summary of the actual characters really surprised me.
 
Not usually one to bump threads lol but just wanted to say I finally watched the movie 'Pig' with Nic Cage in it and I was blown away. Kind of an odd concept for a movie, but top notch acting and action and just a damn good time.

9.5/10.
 
I watched White Noise the other night with the wife. It's very high functioning, yet dysfunctional. The poetic dialogue can be discombobulating, but once you accept it, it becomes quite entertaining. It's like Vonnegut meets Shakespeare.

It's rather matter of fact. The satire is rich and touches all parts of the film from the family dynamic, to Adam Drivers specialty as a professor, to the toxic event. It purposely takes its self to seriously and yet doesn't at the same time.

It delivers several messages about humanities fears and coping mechanisms. The consumerism that has destroyed us and yet, exists as our pillow. The effect of generational gaps and information consumption between parents and children (the children come off smarter than the parents because they can more reliably collect information and get real facts, while past generations rely on what they know at hand.) Mob mentality....spoiler....people are part of a mob to be part of a mob. The fear of death is one of the biggest notions touched on.

I haven't read the book yet. I will though.
 
I really enjoyed Bullet Train with Brad Pitt way more than I thought I would...for a low budget action/comedy it entertained me. The way the Japanese train crew just ignored everything around them was funny as hell to me.
 
Watched a few in the theaters over our Christmas break ....

Violent Night- LOVED IT!!!! Die Hard plus Home Alone plus Bad Santa equals a really good 90ish minutes of holiday fun! I will say it's tough to praise it too much because I think it's a movie that will get overhyped by people and those a little late to the party will be disappointed by raised expectations, but if you go into it knowing what it is and what it isn't, than I think you'll have a fun time. Pretty easily in my top 10 of Christmas movies of all time and might even crack the top 5! 9/10

M3GAN- Not bad but not sure it's a theater movie ... probably best as a home streamer. This one is exactly what you expect, Childs Play and AI mashed into one. I didn't realize it was PG13 until the first person is killed but it became pretty obvious at that point. It has a little humor and left me feeling more creeped out over anything. 7/10

The Menu- Was an interesting premise that was fairly predictable but a good send up of the wealthy. Not bad but again not one I'm likely to revisit anytime soon. 6/10

I Wanna Dance with Somebody- This is the Whitney Houston biopic and as with most of these it lives somewhere between a big budget movie and something made for the Lifetime Network. It glosses over a lot and doesn't really explain much but the woman playing Whitney did a good job and Stanly Tucci as Clive Davis kind of stole the show (as he should). The wife picked this one and loved singing along to the music but the best part of this trip to the movies was the loaded fries, beer and popcorn! 5/10

I remember Whitney singing the National Anthem for the Super Bowl in the early 90's and thinking that was the best rendition I'd ever heard anyone sing that song. I still stand by that to this day.
 
Best National Anthem I ever heard was San Francisco Opera. They could sure hold a note.
 
Can absolutely 100% recommend Barbarian (now on Hulu). Don't read anything about it before you watch it. I especially recommend it if you're one of those people who can always tell where a movie is going and get easily bored.
 
What exactly is a banshee? I have referenced Lucia screeching like a banshee when another cat enters her yard but never knew what banshees are
