Even with that they are still hypocritical pretentious narcissists. Hate seeing Meryl Streep at this show every year. She’s the worst

Meryl. Jesus shes nominated every year it seems. The Oscars should start out with the host pointing to her and saying, "Well Meryl Streep is still alive."

Honestly the Oscar movies are kinda shit. Darkest hour looks boring. Can’t stand Meryl Streep so the post is a no go for me. Lady bird bleh. Shape of water looks alright. Three billboards also looks ehhh. Get out is overrated. I’m a big Christopher Nolan fan and Dunkirk has amazing cinematography but I thought that was also meh. My favorite movie of this entire year is wind river and blade runner. I’m kinda surprised windriver doesn’t have a nomination here. It was really good. Blade runner should get the cinematography win. Or Dunkirk. Who knows. I just can’t stand the Oscars.

The Shape of water was good. Three Billboards was also good. Most of the other nominees this year I agree are meh. Though I though Get Out was pretty goid for what it was. Wind River was also one of my favorites this past year. A damn good movie. Should have been nominated. I liked Bladerunner, I thought it was a perfect sequel to the original.

Dunkirk, Call Me By Your Name, The Darkest Hour, and Lady Bird were my favorites from the list.

So, which of the movies for Best Movie have you seen? My wife and I go to the movies a lot. She finally got me to go see The Shape of Water tonight. It was really great. Surprised I liked it. Hypnotic and sweet and well thought out. Very unique.

Here's the list of nominees:

  •  Call Me by Your Name

  •  Darkest Hour

  •  Dunkirk

  •  Get Out

  •  Lady Bird

  •  Phantom Thread

  •  The Post

  •  The Shape of Water

  •  Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri

    Dunkirk was unlike anything I have ever seen and probably deserves to win, but I don't think it will. Loved Darkest Hour. Won't see Phantom Thread as I haven't liked Paul Thomas Anderson's recent films. 3 Billboards was great, so was Ladybird. The Post was good, but doesn't belong on this list. I think The Shape of Water wins, though it wasn't my favorite.

Dunkirk was an interesting movie for me. When it was over I thought to myself “that’s it?” But as days went by it just stuck with me. Then I realized what stuck with me wasn’t really the movie, it was the score. Zimmer is a genius.

Get out was cool, a fun movie experience with a message.

I want to see Phantom Thread just because of the DDL/PTA reunion. There will be blood is in my top 5 movies of all time. Which recent films of his did you not like? Inherent Vice was boring. I liked the Master though.

I just watched "Kingsman" with Samuel L Jackson and Michael Caine and thought it was a great, entertaining action flick.

There are a few I want to see that are still out in theater such as Mad Max, Ant Man, The Entourage movie, etc...

A few I want to see which are out on Blu-Ray, but haven't gotten around to it.

Kingsman was great. Try John Wick (the first one), I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Now there's a new action movie out there called "The Take", "Bastille Day" in Europe, starring an Englishman, Idris Elba - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastille_Day_(film). Highly entertaining.

My girlfriend roped me into seeing Lady Bird in theaters with her, and although she loved the hell out of it, I had a hard time relating to the story. I understand why some would enjoy it, but I just didn't.

Been into noirs recently. Saw Laura, the moody New York 1944 film starring Laura Tierney and Dana Andrews. Highly reccommend it. Has a character study of obsession that is beyond creepy. Right up there with Hitchcock's best work. Actually, it's hard to believe that the fat guy didn't direct it.

Great movie. Great script, great acting, great directing. Great story. One of Vincent Price's best performances. Clifton Webb was great. Dana Andrews was great. Gene Tierney was also great.

Oh, the score was also great. Very moody.

Icarus on Netflix.

Oh holy shit, halfway through this. It's a documentary about bicycle racing and OMG things do down a very very dark rabbit hole. Don't want to spoil anything but I'm not a bicycle racing fan and this movie is a fucking trip.

Must watch!

Yeah, but is it good when you're not stoned?

I mentioned this one before and I'll mention it again.

Under Sandet (aka in the US as Land of Mine) is another spectacular movie taking place post WWII.

In post-World War II Denmark, a group of young German POWs are forced to clear a beach of thousands of land mines under the watch of a Danish Sergeant who slowly learns to appreciate their plight.

Just saw Wonder Woman and thought it was GREAT. I had been resisting it. So glad I changed my mind. Gal Gadot is fantastic in it! Apparently she only made 300K lol? Wow.

That was $299,999 too much.

I thought that was a brilliant film

Here's a few you may not have heard of but I think are excellent -

1. The Big Country: Charlton Heston and Gregory Peck; Co-Starred Charles Bickford, Burl Ives and Chuck Conners;

2. Forbidden Planet: Robby the Robot and Leslie Nielson;

3. The Searchers: John Wayne;

4. Northwest Passage: Spencer Tracy;

5. North by Northwest, Cary Grant.

I saw that. It was pretty good.

Just saw Black Panther. It was damned good. The final battle between Boswick and Jordan could have been better. It was to quick. Could have been better coregraphed. I wanted a panther fight and we got a kitty cat fight.

Saw it last night, very good, a little too on the nose, the actual audio recordings of Nixon were a nice touch. From Script to final edit Spielberg pumped this movie out in 8 months. I get it, he was trying to make a political point but with all the star power he had in the movie it would have be better if he had taken a little longer and made a better movie.

Really enjoyed this movie but I'm a big Frances McDormand fan. It must be almost annoying for her when everyone who comes up with a Coen'ish type movie they call her to star in it.

Wife and I just watched Three Billboards. I still haven't seen most of the movies up for the award this year but if there is a better movie than this one I can't wait to see it.

Red Sparrow was mediocre.

Double Lover was mediocre.

Annihilation was pretty good.

Black Panther was great.

Just saw that Three Billboards was from the same guy that made In Bruges. That was a great film too. Love this guy

Anyone a fan of Blue Chips? Great bball movie in my book. I remember seeing it in the theater in ‘93 and just picked up the dvd recently. Still holds up. I liked that actual nba players were in it, even in background roles. Especially liked Nick Nolte’s temper tantrum scene at the start.
