Saw 1917 recently ... was a good flick in the moment but doesn't really hold up to thinking about the absurd things that happen. That said, it looks like it's a runaway train for Best Picture at the Oscars. I still like Hollywood and Joker better but wouldn't be mad if 1917 won. Still need to see The Irishman, Marriage Story, Parasite and Ford vs. Ferrari. My dad did say The Gentlemen was a really good flick and I want to check out Bad Boys 4 Life still. So many movies, so little time.

The Irishman was great. I think it should get the Oscar.

Finally saw Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. Really good but wouldn't be my pick for best picture and it's not my favorite Tarantino flick. DiCaprio and Pitt were fantastic though.

What is?

I haven't seen it yet but I will some day.

My Tarantino fav 3:
Reservoir Dogs
Django Unchained
Pulp Fiction
Django was a great movie

Inglorious Bastards is probably my favorite. I'm a sucker for some good ol' Nazi killing.

Then probably Pulp Fiction, a classic.

Inglourious Bastards was my least favorite Tarantino movie. Pitt in a uniform does not work.

Casting Pitt in action movies is on the same level as casting Taylor Swift as the lead in the Kill Bill series. It does not work.

Pitt should stick with what he is good at. Romantic drama movies. And leave the action movies to Angelina.

Hey, Angelina with the lead role in Inglourious Bastards. That would have been a great movie.

The Magnificent Seven with Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Eli Wallach, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and Robert Vaughn.

Fantastic western!

I want to see the winner of the academy award for Best Picture, The Parasite, a Korean language movie with English subtitles.

I watched Joker the other night, or at least tried to. That POS got nominated for an Oscar? Just a horrible movie. I made it a little past halfway and had to turn it off.

Parasite is the best picture of last year, and rightly deserves the Oscar.

My second favorite film of the year is Jo Jo Rabbit. It's probably the one I'll watch every couple of years.

Joker was ok. I'll never watch it or probably even think about it again.

1917 felt like a 2 hour Call of Duty campaign with better graphics and plot. It was good for what it set out to do, I guess. But it's at best a distant third to my top 2.

Uncut Gems was one I was looking forward to, but god it was so damned noisy. People talking and yelling and swearing over each other constantly. It was like watching an un-funny, stressful version of Sunny in Philadelphia with Kevin Garnett. I gave up halfway through.

Pulp Fiction is Tarantino's best film. Saw it the other day with my sons. The Gimp scene was Uncomfortable Family Viewing. But the payoff of my sons knowing how much "I'm pretty far from OK" can mean is probably worth it. And there's a great lesson in there about illegal drugs.

  1. Parasite
  2. Joker
  3. 1917
  4. JoJo Rabbit
  5. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
  6. The Irishman
  7. Ford v Ferrari
  8. Marriage Story

Uncut Gems would slide in at number 3 if it had been nominated as it should have. Didn't see Little Women.

Very happy Parasite won Best Picture and Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor.

For the Best Picture nominees:
Jojo Rabbit: A
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: A+
Joker: A (you either love it or hate it)
1917: A
The Irishman: B-
Parasite: B+ (Good, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again)
Ford vs. Ferrari: A-
Marriage Story: Haven't seen yet
Little Women: Haven't seen yet

My favorite of the Year is pretty close between three of them but I'll go with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, edging out Jojo and 1917.

Will Ferrell is promoting his new movie Downhill on Colbert, but both of them have neglected to mention that it is a remake of a Swedish movie called Force Majeure. Force Majeure is excellent.

I watched JoJo Rabbit last night and really liked it.
Patiently waiting for 1917 to be available to rent on Xfinity.
Probably going to watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood soon.

Parasite was really good, and probably "great" if you have never seen a foreign film before. But best movie? I don't think so.

Took my family to see the new "Call of the Wild" remake. Enjoyed it a lot. Almost felt like two separate short movies. The CGI dog was a little distracting at first, but you get used to it after a while.

I might try to watch Marriage Story. But as a guy currently going thru a divorce (not my choice), not sure about watching it. :(
