Saw Kiss of the Spider Woman back in the 80s. Finally on HBO. If you have HBO, watch. If your image of Raul Julia is quirky Gomez Addams, you will see him in quite another light, along with costar William Hurt.
And the depiction of Brazilian military distatorship is accurate.

I admit Gump is in the group of Shawshank for me, severely overrated but also understand why people love it. Granted I also was bored to tears by all three Lord of the Rings movies that always are at the top of these lists.
 
Began Halloween horror movie binge last night with I Know What You Did Last Summer.
 
Saw Dune and Dune 2 this month… I liked the first one a lot more than the second one but both were at least really good. That first movie was fantastic.
 
Sometimes when the world is going to hell in a high speed train, watch a comedy. I rewatched Damn Yankees, don't think I've seen it since high school. Had to laugh at female sports writer on the field with ballplayers in dress, high heels, hat and little white gloves. Always thought she was prettier than vamp Lola.

Those have been on my 'To Watch List' but have never gotten around to them ... maybe this 3 week Christmas break will be the time!
 
I watched the Revenant with DiCaprio last night and the cinematography was mind blowing...the bear attack is a masterpiece of thriller film footage. Didn't care for way they ended it but the journey was amazing. I usually split up long epic films into two watching sessions but I stayed up an hour past my bedtime to finish this one. Tom Hardy is the best bad guy of this era.
 
Smile 2 .... slightly better and yet worse than the first one but hey the wife got to enjoy a couple margaritas and the popcorn was good! 6.4/10
Beetlejuice 2 .... a lot like the first just not as good, whole subplot should have been axed to cut about 15 minutes off and it would have been much better. The pizza was good though and so were the loaded fries. 7.1/10

I watched this movie this weekend. Pretty good. I enjoyed it overall. I agree, touching story.
It has a Hallmark movie feel to it, acting/directing.

Canadian Bacon is the last film John Candy starred in that he fully completed before his death on the set of Wagon's East. I had seen it a long time ago on cable, we're talking sometime in the mid 2000s. It's aged wonderfully, as the plot revolves around a terrible President (Alda) in post Cold War America desperate to boost his popularity. He lobbies Russia to turn the heat up a little and they refuse. So his advisors point to Canada, run an anti Canadian propaganda campaign, showing up on panel shows to talk about the lack of an identifiable Canadian culture. It felt like the sort of material you'd see from the Trump talking heads in the days following the tariffs roll out.

I was never a Michael Moore guy but I can easily recommend this one. Surprised that he never directed another comedy.
 
Not a movie but currently streaming 11.22.1963. I had heard of the book but not read it. Based on Stephen King novel in which a man travels back in time to try to prevent assassination of Kennedy.

The book is better than the series in my opinion but both were great!

Amazing how much tension watching it considering I know what happened. Also bringing back memories of the day. School let out early. My mom crying.

Probably watched it 10 times. It's truly excellent. But don't expect a conventional ending.

Also, after you've seen that, watch Away, which is also done by the same one Latvian guy, only this time it was literally him doing EVERYTHING. It looks cruder but it's equally engrossing.
 
Flow is on a streaming service I don't have and really not into anime.
 
Finally saw Anora ... it was a good watch and a fine movie but don't think it was to the level of some of the greats that have won 4/5 big Oscars.

Agreed. It will be like The Green Book - a very forgettable Best picture winner. It was a fine movie, but it shows you just how far movies have fallen for it to even be considered for best picture.

I enjoyed this one. Some actors you've seen in past 15-20 get to shine in a movie they don't really make anymore. It felt like watching one of those mid budget Tarantino clones from the late '90s. It's slow starting out but reaches an unraveling point about 40 minutes in and it kept me glued from there.
