My guess is lifestyle factors. It's not like the folks that were mummified (Egypt's royal family) did any work. It's not just their diet; they likely never exercised.

agreed. I used to wonder how ancient peoples would deal with our mundane problems, or if they even had those problems.

Exactly right.

Lifestyle deseases became common to the masses when the masses became wealthy enough to adopt lifestyles of Royalty:

Avoid physical labor
Avoid exertion and sweating (stinky!)
Eating and drinking (alcohol) more than required to sustain
Consuming: Sugar; white bread/rice; meat; oil.

The Egyptian royal classes had much of the above as part of their lifestyle, which would explain clogged arteries.
