A few days ago Steve started a thread about the greatest HR duo's ever, well I thought I'd expand on that with the best version of MURDERERS ROW being (Mantle, Maris & Skowron) who as the 3,4 & 5 hitters combined to hit a still record 143 HRs between them in 1961. Over the years a few have come close..............

143 HRs - 1961 New york Yankees (Mantle 54, Maris 61 & Skowron 28)
132 HRs - 2001 San Francisco Giants ( Aurilia 37, Bonds 73 & Kent 22)
125 HRs - 1927 New york Yankees (Ruth 60, Gehrig 47 & Lazzeri 18)
124 HRs - 1973 Atlanta Braves (Aaron 40, Evans 41, & Johnson 43)
124 HRs - 1997 Seattle Mariners (Griffey 56, Buhner 40 & Edgar 28)
121 HRs - 2000 Houston Astro's (Bagwell 47, Hidalgo 44, & Alou 30)
119 HRs - 1970 Cincinnati Reds (Perez 40, Bench 45, & May 34)
116 HRs - 1963 San Francisco Giants (Mays 38, Cepeda 34, & McCovey 44)

Good catch Tom I'll add them on. I don't know where in the order Sorrento battered for the Mariners that year (31 HRs) But I believe there 3,4 & 5 hitters were Griffey, Buhner & Edgar.

Aside from the '61 Yanks having TWO hitters with at least 50 HRs, the team which jumped off the page was the '73 Braves having three players with at least 40 HRs.

Davey Johnson was one of them.....the old "launching pad" in Atlanta.
