Except we didn't do any of those things in many of the countries in the OP.

They were once part of the British Empire. When they left, the Brits drew arbitrary lines in the sand as borders and installed monarchies everywhere.

That may have more to do with their unhappiness. Being owned by the royal family isn't exactly freedom.
