I didn't say that Allen was cheap but it was brought to my attention that Allen has the 23rd cheapest team salary in the league. I also believe that he's taking the "Moneyball" approach. I don't see how that's deriding anyone or saying that is lacking perspective? In all actuallity, I haven't been going after anyone in that manner because it's just not a cool thing to do. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

I don't think Allen is being cheap; I think he's pursuing a "feast or famine" strategy. When we're rebuilding, there's no reason to lay out huge money. However, if we're close, I think PA will open his wallet if faced with a deal that would dramatically increase the chances of us winning a championship.

I don't think we'll ever hear the truth from the front office, but I think they're as surprised as anyone at how quickly we became good. My guess was they thought we were at least a year or two away. In other words, I bet PA opens the wallet this summer and brings in one or two impact players, luxury tax be damned.

Also when you are building a team (as opposed to making sure you keep what you have) you don't throw out big contracts unless you are sure of their talent. You need the flexibility in case you need to move them.

IMO you go way over the cap when you are rewarding your team, and you want to make sure you keep what worked locked up for as long as possible. But until they succeed... you wait. Not saying don't gamble on a Hibbert if you have the chance, or overpay to keep Nic. But don't go crazy til you have to.

Not sure you can since the NFL does not have guaranteed contracts. Plus it's just too different IMO. The average career of a NFL player is so much shorter. Different strategy all together.

You are correct in stating that the NBA doesn't have non-guaranteed contracts but don't both leagues effectively have the same results?

The NBA has gone more to 1-2 year contracts where the team has a team option and then even a player option. Also teams can waive players and the new team would pick up the remaining portion of their contracts. Also, it's worth mentioning that contracts in the NBA are even less today than they were 4 years ago. While it's certainly not the same line for line, isn't the result (Within reason) the same at the end of the day?

I am interested in seeing if Allen is going to do the something with the Blazers that he currently is doing with the Seahawks. It's probably something we need to let play out but I think he is.
