OT My Car Got Stolen

Had a coworker get his truck stolen last week. He got it back last night. Was like posted above probably used in a drug run and then abandoned.

Sorry to hear that, Chris. That truly sucks. Hope the police recover it. I worked security for a quite a few years. I usually only had theft problems when they were overworking me and I wasn't getting enough sleep. What was worse was the guys who would drive there Harleys up to the front of some chain them. Just so they could hop off and burn rubber at the end of the day. Perfect opportunity for a couple of guys to come by with some bolt cutters, break the chains, and toss the cycle in the back of a truck.

And now it looks like my mom has cancer....fuck me. Multiple cell Myeloma...they found antibodies for it in her blood and are doing more tests. Waiting for a phone call.

It feels horrible. I know. I feel your pain. You won't get much insurance for it. Early 90's Toyotas and Hondas did not have the sophisticated security found in vehicles these days. For the next car you buy you can install a hidden kill switch or a remote control explosive device to teach them a lesson.

Unfortunately the older cars are easier to get into, so they make easy targets for the "less than pro"
For example. The 90's ford rangers, came with their own slim jim.
The antenna on the front of the cab has a hex pattern at the base to easily screw in and out.
The top has a ball tip end.

Unscrew the antenna, go to the door handle and lift it up, then slip the ball tip end into the crack. angle the outside end down, so the ball inside goes up, and it will catch the lever and pop the lock, just like that.

I did this all the time to unlock my techs who locked their keys in their truck when working for comcast.

Chris, you know I think this blows bro.

We will need to get together soon and drink our sorrows away to a game.

So have you returned @ChrisCraigs' car?

EDIT: Asked and answered.

Got the car back today. The cops had it towed to a lot. Had to pay $240 to get it out. No real damage. The battery was dead, the hydraulics to keep the hood open were broken, and some papers and misc. items were missing.

You had to pay $240 to get your car back?! That’s bullshit! I hope your mom’s okay!

Prepare for your upcoming ID theft.

This thread took a turn in an unexpected way. Really sorry to hear about your mom @Chris Craig , hope its just a scare and not the real deal.

Wow. You were penalized $240 for being a victim of theft. The tow companies have quite a comfy racket going with the justice system now days. As soon as everyone got their cut of your hard earned money...case closed. Got the Camry back tho. My mom's '93 is a champ.

And prayers for your mom, most importantly.

Thanks man. Yeah it is fucked up. Yeah its a damn good car, reliable, runs likes a boss. Thanks too for the prayers

Glad to hear you got your car back. Sad to hear about your mother. Keep her close and stay strong for her. She will need it. Best wishes to you and your family Chris. You're a good dude man. Hate to see this shit happening to you.

AND FUCK THESE TOW COMPANIES!!!!

Sorry to hear about your mother. Hope that it ends like your car theft - an inconvenience only.

Just went to the doctor with my mother. The initial tests were wrong. I repeat wrong. Further testing has come back clear of cancer. My mother doesn't have cancer. Thank God. The large quantity of antibodies they attributed to multiple cell myeloma are in fact due to her body fighting her psoriatic arthritis.
