Memphis and Rudy Gay are unlikely to agree on an extension by the October deadline. At 6'8" 240 lbs., he can start at SF and backup PF. Decent defender, nice mid-range game, slasher, can be a bit of a black hole. He'd give us a legit 3rd option until Greg is ready. This works money wise:

To Memphis:
Jerryd Bayless
Travis Outlaw
Martell Webster
1st round pick

To Portland
Rudy Gay
Marco Jeric

PG: Andre Miller / Steve Blake
SG: Brandon Roy / Rudy Fernandez
SF: Rudy Gay / Nicolas Batum
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Juwan Howard / Dante Cunningham
C: Greg Oden / Joel Przybilla/ Jeff Pendergraph

You have the right idea for how to consolidate, a 3 for 1 after we'd dump Jaric. But that's too much to give for Gay, even without the pick. Gay is interesting, though, heavier and stronger than Outlaw. He's already an Outlaw now and with Blazer coaching would improve further.

Brandon and Rudy know each other well from their college days :ohno:

Um, more like that is not enough to get Gay.

I mean, I would do that trade in a heartbeat. But it is not going to happen.

Honestly, at this point I'd be OK with sending Blake and Outlaw to Memphis for Jaric and an unprotected #1. Let Bayless and Howard back up PG and PF, waive Jaric, and keep Mills, Udoka, and Collins. All roster problems solved.

I'd do that deal, definitely. Which means it's probably not a good one for Memphis.

I read this morning that Charlotte may lose its SG (Raja Bell) for 4 months with a wrist injury, maybe a Rudy/Webs or TO and change for G Wallace?

It's a "good" trade in the sense that it exchanges a lot of depth for a single focused target, but there's something about Gay's game that bugs the hell out of me -- and it's not just his selfish ways with the basketball in his hands ...

My feelings on who we should trade and whom we should trade for shift on an almost daily basis, but the one constant is that I know KP has got to do something to pare down this roster into a more manageable and clearly defined form.

Not a big fan of trading for Gay. I don't see hwo he fits in with the rest of our starters. Aren't we already having an issue where our coach wants to bring Oden off the bench to get him touches? Rudy Gay in a contract year isn't going to want to play 4th fiddle to Roy, LMA, and Oden. And I don't think i'd really want him getting touches above any of those 3.

I almost think this is the kind of the deal KP will be looking for by the deadline. Another scorer like Roy that can play the three. I mentioned Caron Butler previously. Gay wouldn't be bad. How good of an outside shot does he have? Also, if we are going to deal with Memphis, I kinda hope Conley is involved.

Isn't Gay a head case? I mean, a major head case?

They had major head butting issues as to who was going to take shots late in the game between him and OJ Mayo. Just think how lovely that situation will be with AI in the mix. :drumroll:

I really, really REALLY do not get the Gay love on this board. (Homosexual love, now that I understand. [I was going to say "get", but I thought that might lead to misunderstandings].)

Please explain how people can appreciate Gay but not Outlaw. Isn't Gay just Outlaw without the good personality and with a greater sense of entitlement? He's an ATROCIOUS defender and the EPITOME of "volume scorer on a crappy team". Or am I missing something?

Let's put Webster or Outlaw in Memphis and see what numbers they put up on O. Not to mention Bayless or Rudy (who could probably defend the 3 at least as poorly as Gay does).

This is why I made the suggestion I did. Send Outlaw/Blake away, get a crap contract and a high lotto pick, and be happy with that.

Charlotte and Gerlad Wallace are unlikely to go anywhere at their talent level, and his cap hold. At 6'7" 220 lbs., he can start at SF and Howard can backup PF. Good defender, nice mid-range game, slasher. He'd give us a legit 3rd option until Greg is ready. This works money wise:

How you say.. Fixed?

Rudy Gay doesn't pass.

Like...at all.

I think Rudy Gay will be a better player than Gerald soon. He's four years younger, better scorer, and he's a decent defender.

TO + J.Bay + $$$ and/or pick(s) for Crash Wallace FTW!!! :ghoti:

don't forget Zach :)

has Vegas established an over/under on how many games before the Griz get an assist?

STOMP

Do they count it as an assist if someone airs it and Zach catches and puts it in? I could see that happening once or twice.

Memphis gets a young and exciting point guard in Bayless, they get Aldridge who is a borderline all-star (and he's signed), plus they get Outlaw who they covet.

We get Conley (our pg of the future), Gasol (who would be a great backup center), and Gay as our starting small forward (who we would have to sign).

and then this

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yjxwrre

Houston gets Joel to play center for them while Yao is out (and if Yao continues to be out). They get Rudy to be there starting shooting guard until TMAC is back, and they get Batum and Blake.

We get Battier and Scola. Scola becomes our starting power forward, and Battier backs up Gay.

Miller/Conley
Roy/Webster
Gay/Battier
Scola/Howard/Dorsey
Oden/Gasol
